The Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift Cars

The film Fast and Furious was released in 2001. It had a record-breaking $38 million budget. With $206 million in worldwide box office receipts, it became the 386th-highest film of all time in the United States and Canada.

The Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift Cars

Tokyo Drift used nearly 200 cars in total for the film. These were imported from Japan since the film required right-hand drive vehicles.

This article will cover the main Tokyo drift cars featured in the film.

1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Tokyo Drift

The history of Monte Carlo is brief in the film. As Sean's first vehicle and the first to crash, it appears in the film's opening minutes.

The modifications made to the Monte Carlo were numerous. According to the staff responsible for the vehicles, two out of nine of the Monte Carlo's featured a 560 horsepower and a 509 horsepower engine block.

The insane 10.3-liter displacement of the 632 cubic inch block, created by Bill Mitchell, allows it to produce 800 horsepower with 8 cylinders.

The wheels are Cragar 397 steel 15-inch with Wilwood brakes and Good Year Eagle slicks on all four corners.

The front tires are 27x8 inches, while the rear tires are 27 x 10 inches.

1967 Ford Mustang Tokyo Drift

In just one day, Sean transforms some old junk into an excellent race car so he can compete against the Drift King in the film. As a result, he used a V8 engine from a 2001 Nissan Skyline Rb26 with a 1998 Nissan Skyline 5 Speed 2WD gearbox.

The vehicle was also raised off the ground with Volk Racing Grey GT-7 wheels, 245/35R19 front, and 275/35R19 rear Toyo Proxes T1R tires.

The 375 horsepower V8 Tokyo Drift Mustangs can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds and complete the quarter mile at 96.7 mph in 14.7 seconds.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX Tokyo Drift

The front wheels were detached from the powertrain to convert the Evo to a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. The wide-body kit from APR was installed on the Tokyo Drift Evo IXs, which was also lowered over Eibach springs.

The oversized fenders were paired with 19-by-8.5-inch Rays G-Games 99B wheels and 255/35R19 Toyo Proxes T1R tires.

RMR upgraded the brakes with Brembo discs and calipers and changed the steering knuckles for a greater angle. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engines were kept original with the addition of an RMR exhaust system.

On a chassis dynamometer, power was increased from the factory 286 horsepower at the crank to 289.5 horsepower at the rear wheels.

2000 Nissan Silvia S15 Tokyo Drift

The universal team did not put more effort into this vehicle.

The Furious Silvia's stock-looking C-West DRFT aero package is its best feature. Some external features include a GT wing from C-West, Modern Image graphics, and a pair of Ganador mirrors.

With the addition of some 19-inch Volk GT-7 rims and Toyo Proxes TR1 tires, the wheels receive an attractive makeover.

2006 Mazda RX-8 Tokyo Drift

The RX8 was designed by Universal to be a female vehicle. It was built to protect its driver from harm. Red and black, yellow and black, and more color combinations can be spotted on it.

VeilSide D1-GT body kit covers the car's front, sides, and rear sides. At 5,500 rpm, the Tokyo RX-8 produces 191 horsepower at 5,150 rpm. It has a maximum torque of 187 pound-feet.

The Tokyo Drift RX-8 can run the quarter mile at 103.6 mph in 14.9 seconds and from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds.

2006 Nissan 350Z Tokyo Drift

The 350z was designated as the villain's vehicle by Universal. It is painted black to fit the villain and has a cool body.

The APS twin-turbo system for the 350Z produces 450 horsepower and a 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine.

It includes a six-speed gearbox that feeds back to a Nismo limited slip accelerating the Nissan to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds or to the quarter-mile mark at 114.8 mph in 13.2 seconds.

Mazda RX-7 Veilside Tokyo Drift

One of the biggest automotive aftermarket businesses in Japan, Veilside, constructed this RX7 for the 2005 Tokyo Auto Salon. As soon as Universal bought the vehicle, they modified it to suit the film. The original color was changed from red to bright orange.

The vehicle generates 256 lb-ft of torque at 5,950 rpm and 306 horsepower at 6,650 rpm for the rear wheels. It runs the quarter-mile at 104.5 mph in 14.1 seconds and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds.

Volkswagen Golf R32 Tokyo Drift

Four 2007 Volkswagen R32s with right-hand drive were made available by Volkswagen to the universal movie producers.

The R32 from Tokyo Drift has a set of "Lamborghini" scissor doors and a rear wing. It has a six-speed manual transmission and a 3.2-liter V6 engine with 250 horsepower. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, and at 94.3 mph completing the quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds.

Summary

The success of the Fast & Furious movie was no fluke. The Tokyo Drift vehicles they imported were among the most respected and advanced in terms of enhancements and modifications.

This contributed to the film’s success becoming the 386th-highest film of all time in the United States and Canada.
