How Much Does A Hellcat Weigh?

Dustin Hawley | Jan 01, 2023

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is one of the last coupes out there with the V8 Thunder under its hood, its powerful 6.2-liter engine spewing out 717 horsepower. But how does it stack up compared to models like Dodge SRT Demon unveiled in 2017, designed to outperform the Hellcat? Does the weight of these cars have anything to do with performance? Let’s take a closer look.

How Much Does A Hellcat Weigh

What Is A Hellcat?

Hellcat is a newer variant of one the most popular Dodge cars, the Dodge Challenger. The Dodge SRT Hellcat took all Challenger’s powerful features & supercharged them with a 6.2 liter Hemi V8 engine, among other modifications. This was done to convert the Challenger into a new racetrack-ready version that can hit 60 MPH in 3.6 seconds.

How Much Does A Hellcat Weigh?

To accommodate that massive engine and other equipment, the Hellcat ended up weighing much more than other similarly-sized cars. The original 2015 model Hellcat weighs around 4469 pounds, 1100 pounds more than Lamborghini Aventador or 1224 pounds more than the original Dodge Challenger!

But what it lacks in terms of lightness, it makes up for in speed. And over the years, it has slimmed down a bit, with models like the SRT Hellcat Redeye weighing in at 4436 pounds, even with upgraded components.

Newer Models

In 2018, Dodge came up with a more advanced yet lighter version of the Hellcat that paved the way for further weight reductions in 2019 & 2020. The 2016 and 2017 models came in at a massive 5450 pounds. The 2018 version, however, tipped the scales at a more svelte 4456 pounds.

In 2019, Dodge came up with even lighter models like the SRT Hellcat Redeye. While we saw a slightly heavier version in 2020 with 4470 pounds, 2021 saw the lightest SRT Hellcat yet, weighing in at just 4428 pounds.

Is Hellcat The Fastest Dodge Car?

Unfortunately, even with all its weight variations and upgrades, it is not the fastest Dodge car on the road. This title goes to another Dodge car that was inspired by the Hellcat, the Dodge Demon. The Demon is a limited production variant of the Dodge Challenger, which is built on the high-performance foundation of the SRT Hellcat: it adds in a 2.7-liter supercharger to the already high-powered 6.2-liter Hemi V8. Most recognizable for its bright red color and demon logo, the Dodge Demon can go from 0 to 60 MPH (97 KMH) in just 2.3 seconds! Now, that’s fast.

Summary

The Hellcat might not be the fastest Dodge car, but it is definitely one of the more impressive ones. The car weighs over 4000 pounds, but with that kind of weight, it also packs an engine that can manage over 700 horsepower. Over 1000 pounds heavier than the original Dodge Challenger, the Hellcat is a literal beast but offers up an immense amount of power.
