How Do You Reset Tire Pressure On A Honda Civic From 2019?

Dustin Hawley | Feb 15, 2023

The Honda Civic has a maintenance alert system that notifies you when some maintenance tasks are due. It includes tire pressure, oil changes, and more. If you do not reset the tire pressure after changing it, this will result in an error message on your dashboard.

How Do You Reset Tire Pressure On A Honda Civic From 2019

If you're new to driving or are unsure how to maintain proper tire pressure on a Honda Civic, understanding how to reset the low-pressure warning light can be helpful. Thankfully, resetting the tire pressure is easy and only takes a few minutes, so let’s get into the topic and see how it’s done.

Why Is Tire Pressure Important?

Maintaining proper pressure is crucial because it affects your car's performance, fuel economy and prevents you from getting into an accident. Underinflated tires can transform a smooth ride into a bumpy one and cause skids on wet or icy roads. They also have lower grip levels than properly-inflated ones, which means you’re twice as likely to lose control during emergencies.

Plus, they'll wear out faster when you don't inflate them and check the pressure. And seeing as buying a new set won’t come cheap, it’s best to use the system for your benefit.

What Does The Maintenance System Do?

The maintenance system is a built-in feature of the Honda Civic. While it doesn’t monitor tire pressure exclusively, it’s one of its functions. This is accomplished due to several additional components installed in the vehicle:

  • The tire pressure sensor, which is attached to the axle
  • The maintenance indicator light, located in the instrument panel (also known as the dash)

That said, it’s not necessarily an intelligent system and occasionally requires some input from the owner. Even though there’s a sensor, it doesn’t transfer information to the maintenance system correctly each time. But generally, as the owner, you should reset the maintenance system when it triggers an alert saying something like: “Low Tire Pressure!” with the warning chime going off in the background.

How to Reset Tire Pressure on a 2019 Honda Civic

So, if the sensor fails to read the pressure level properly and you see the alert, or you haven’t inflated your tires in a while, you must reset things manually by doing the following:

  • Check the tire pressure. Before resetting it, the first thing is to ensure that your vehicle's tires have enough pressure. Do the opposite, and it would cause the tire pressure sensor to report incorrect data, leading to inaccurate tire pressure readings and eventually resulting in severe damage to your tires. So, inflate them for the pressure to reach the needed level.
  • Turn the key on, but don't start the engine. Before you reset the tire pressure, turn your key on, but don't start the ignition, then turn it off again. It will ensure that the system is ready to reset. If you start the engine before turning your key on, it could interfere with the process.
  • Find the pressure sensor reset button. The TPMS button is usually beneath the steering wheel. However, in Honda Civic 2019, it’s on the left side of the steering wheel, right on the dashboard.
  • Press and hold down the TPMS button. Once the key is off, hold down the tire pressure reset button for at least three seconds. Press and hold it down until the low-pressure light flashes thrice.
  • Release the TPMS button. After the low-pressure light flashes three times, it'll stay off, indicating that your tire pressure has been reset to the recommended level.
  • Turn your key back on and recheck the pressure. The low-pressure light should not be on or flashing, and the tire pressure should be set to the recommended level. Recheck the tire pressure if you still see the light, and if, for instance, it’s too high, repeat the steps until you get it right.

Summary

The Honda Civic is a car equipped with a maintenance system that tracks oil changes, tire pressure, and a couple of other things for the driver’s convenience. But when it concerns pressure exclusively, keep the article's contents in mind, and try to remember how to reset the pressure.

Contact your local Honda dealer if you have any questions or concerns about resetting your tire pressure. They can help you with the reset and give some recommendations for maintaining it.
