Changes to the 2022 Mini Models

Jack R. Nerad | Dec 02, 2021

The most extensive changes to the Mini portfolio of small cars and crossovers for 2022 come in the Hardtop and Convertible lineups. Both Hardtops and Convertibles receive significant freshening inside and out, and they boast a larger standard infotainment display. The battery-electric Mini Cooper SE gets exterior changes that give it a stronger identity for 2022. Meanwhile, the Mini Clubman and Mini Countryman feature more minor changes for the new model year.

A change that extends across the entire 2022 lineup is the standardization of Mini's digital instrument cluster. All Minis also add electronic safety aids and more infotainment features.

2022 Mini Cooper Clubman Changes

The changes to the 2022 Mini Clubman aren't as extensive as those to the Hardtops and Convertible, but some equipment changes are notable. All Clubman trim levels now include lane-departure warning, and Mini upgrades the infotainment system. The Classic trims now have an 8.8-inch display, up from the previous 6.5-inch unit. The Signature trim has an 8.8-inch display with integrated navigation functions, including real-time traffic information. All Clubmans have SiriusXM satellite radio.

2022 Mini Cooper Convertible Changes

The 2022 model-year changes to the Mini Convertible mimic those of the closely related Mini Hardtops. The Convertible has a new grille and a revised front end. It also gets LED headlights and LED taillights complete with Union Jack details. The John Cooper Works variant also features a rear diffuser.

Inside, the Convertible benefits from moving to a standard 8.8-inch infotainment display screen and standard satellite radio. Many Convertible drivers will welcome the addition of a heated steering wheel. The Convertible also includes added advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) features it shares with the Hardtop models.

2022 Mini Cooper SE 2-Door Hardtop Changes

The battery-electric Mini Cooper SE 2-Door Hardtop is virtually a separate model because of its unique drivetrain. For the 2022 model year, its differences from the standard lineup are highlighted by a unique "closed off" grille and its yellow-accented "S" badging. It also offers its own lineup of distinctive wheels in 16- and 17-inch sizes.

The 2022 Mini Cooper SE interior has a new steering wheel design with heating, a new 8.8-inch infotainment system center display, and standard SiriusXM. Lane-departure warning is now standard as well. The model's Iconic trim has front parking sensors, automatic parking assist, and adaptive cruise control.

2022 Mini Cooper Countryman Changes

After a facelift for the 2021 model year, the Mini Countryman small crossover SUV gets more minor changes for 2022. On the safety front, lane-departure warning joins the standard equipment list. The Signature and Iconic trims of the performance-oriented John Cooper Works Countryman now offer both the Mini Driver Assistance group and an optional Convenience package.

The Driver Assistance package includes park assist, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control. The Convenience package has an alarm system, a center-armrest with a cupholder in the rear seat, and a picnic cushion. (Yes, picnic cushion.)

2022 Mini Cooper Hardtop Changes

Offered in 2-Door and 4-Door body styles, the Mini Hardtop offers revised exterior styling, a larger standard infotainment screen, and additional safety equipment for the 2022 model year. The front end is tidied up with the removal of fog lamps and a revamped hexagon grille. The Cooper S and John Cooper Works trims also have additional front air intakes. LED headlights are now standard, as are LED taillights etched with the Union Jack.

Inside, Mini fits an 8.8-inch infotainment display and satellite radio across the Hardtop lineup. Newly standard 6-color ambient lighting gives the interior a more special glow.

On the active safety front, Mini's Driving Assistant is standard, upgraded with the addition of lane-departure warning. Mini's adaptive cruise control is enhanced to offer full-stop braking.
