The Ford Mustang Mach-E might not be a traditional Mustang. Still, it certainly has the performance and look to wear the iconic pony car badging. Ford released a GT variant shortly after the initial rollout, bringing 480 hp and up to a staggering 634 pound-feet of torque. In 2024, Ford will build on the GT’s performance with a new Rally trim that brings a lift kit, beefier tires on classic rally wheels, and unique styling.
Ford is targeting 480 hp and 650 pound-feet of torque for the Rally, but, like the GT trim, that performance comes at the expense of range. According to Ford’s numbers, the Mustang Mach-E returns just 250 miles on a charge in the Rally format. On the plus side, the automaker says it can fast-charge from 10 to 80 percent in a little more than half an hour.
The Mach-E Rally rides on classic white O.Z. racing-style 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin CrossClimate2 tires. The 235/55 R19 size brings a beefier sidewall than street-focused performance tires, giving the Rally a softer ride and better grip on loose surfaces like gravel and dirt. Ford says it gave the SUV a 20 mm (around 0.8 inches) lift for better ground clearance and to allow more aggressive suspension travel.
An exclusive RallySport drive mode allows drivers to initiate bigger slides, and it adjusts throttle response and suspension damping to provide better traction on loose surfaces and corners. The automaker says it tested the Mach-E Rally in grueling trials at its Michigan Proving Ground, taking it on rigorous 500-mile rally-cross routes to confirm its durability and performance.
Though it still looks like a Mach-E, the Rally has several design elements that give it a unique look. Ford installed an exclusive black grille with built-in fog lights, and the front end has black plastic cladding on the lower lip. The body cladding extends down the sides and around the rear, and Ford installed skid plates over the electric motors underneath the vehicle. Each door has a protective film, and buyers can add mud flaps as a dealer-installed accessory.
Racing stripes, a Focus RS-inspired rear wing spoiler, and a black painted steel roof come standard. Ford offers the SUV in four standard colors: Grabber Blue, Eruption Green, Grabber Yellow, and Shadow Black. Two added-cost colors include Star White and Glacier Gray. Ford installed a recovery point in the front end should the driver’s off-road driving get a little too “spicy.”
The Rally’s cabin aligns closely with the accommodations found in the standard Mach-E, but it gets unique touches to set it apart. Gloss white accents on the steering wheel and dash join contrast stitching and raised “Mach-E Rally” logos on the seats. It retains the standard Mach-E’s 15.5-inch screen size, running Ford’s excellent Sync infotainment software. The Rally will also be available with BlueCruise 1.3, Ford’s latest semi-autonomous driving-assistance system.
