2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Preview

Chris Teague | Jan 17, 2023

The legendary Chevrolet Corvette saw its most dramatic change in 2020 with the debut of the mid-engine eighth-generation car. True to form, Chevy is releasing multiple variations on the American supercar, including a convertible and ultra-high-performance Z06 model

In addition, rumors have swirled for months about a hybrid, all-wheel drive variant, and for the Corvette’s 50th anniversary, Chevrolet has finally revealed the electrified version of the car. When the new Corvette E-Ray goes on sale later this year, it will come in coupe and convertible body styles.

The 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray is the first hybrid model in the car’s long history and will be the first one equipped with all-wheel drive. Additionally, Chevy says the E-Ray is its quickest production Corvette ever, accelerating from 0-60 mph in a staggering 2.5 seconds.

The automaker hasn’t outlined trims and configurations for the car but says the base trim is 1LZ and showed photos of a 3LZ. Chevy offers the same trim levels on the Z06, so expect to see a 2LZ sandwiched between them.

What’s New for the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray?

  • The 2024 E-Ray is Chevrolet’s first hybrid, all-wheel-drive Corvette

  • A 6.2-liter V8 drives the rear wheels, while an electric motor powers the front wheels
  • It takes 2.5 seconds for the E-Ray to accelerate to 60 mph
  • The Corvette E-Ray will be available with an all-new “Artemis Dipped” interior theme
  • Corvette E-Ray pricing starts at $104,295 before adding the destination charge, options, and taxes
  • The Corvette E-Ray release date is later in 2023

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Exterior

The E-Ray follows the Z06’s exterior design, with a wide body and wheels, which Chevy says helps channel the car’s torque. The wheels measure 20 inches in front and 21 inches in the back. In addition, Chevrolet offers four wheel finishes and a carbon wheel upgrade.

Buyers can choose from 14 exterior paint colors, including new blue, gray, and cactus colors. If you wish, you can make the E-Ray more distinctive by adding a blue body-length stripe that runs over the hood, roof, and rear deck from the car’s nose to its tail. Carbon fiber ground effects and black trim are also available.

The E-Ray will introduce a new green-toned “Artemis Dipped” interior theme for the Corvette, which will only be available in 2024. Otherwise, buyers can customize the interior with three seat options, seven interior colors, and two carbon fiber trim packages.

Chevy will equip the E-Ray with a 6.2-liter LT2 V8, similar to the Corvette Stingray. It’s paired with a single electric motor for a combined output of 655 horsepower. The gasoline V8 engine drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the electric motor spins the front wheels. Chevy said the electric motor is mounted on the front axle to preserve storage space in the front trunk (frunk).

The gas engine comes with cylinder deactivation and can operate as a four-cylinder in certain situations, but at full throttle, it’ll help deliver a 2.5-second zero-to-60 mph acceleration time. A new lightweight lithium-ion battery powers the front motor, and Chevrolet’s excellent Magnetic Ride Control adaptive damping suspension comes standard.

Six drive modes let the driver select specific performance settings for various conditions. The modes include Tour, Sport, Track, Weather, My Mode, and Z-Mode. The car also offers a charging mode to recover battery power while driving and a Stealth mode that allows the E-Ray to run only on the electric motor at speeds up to 45 mph.

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Safety

The 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray will share safety equipment and driver assist features with other Corvettes. Based on how the company outfits current Corvettes, several features are standard, but Chevy reserves some for higher trims.

Highlights include the following standard features:

  • High-definition backup camera
  • Rear parking assist sensors
  • Forward-collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assistance

Chevrolet also includes Teen Driver technology, which helps keep young drivers safe and allows parents to monitor their use of the car.

Available Corvette E-Ray safety features include:

  • Blind-spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic warning
  • Forward-view camera

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Technology

The E-Ray will likely retain the standard Corvette’s 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also offers access to SiriusXM satellite radio and connected services, including a Wi-Fi hotspot, as long as there is an active paid subscription.

Chevrolet confirms that the E-Ray has exclusive infotainment apps to help owners monitor power flow and measure performance. In addition to auxiliary gauges, the E-Ray Performance App offers a dyno feature with detailed power output graphs and a system data display.

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Competitors

Though priced from just over $100,000, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will remain a bargain among sports cars. For example, while the Porsche 911 Turbo S shaves about half a second off the E-Ray’s 0-to-60 time, it is also twice as expensive. But, the competitive landscape favors the E-Ray, thanks to the discontinuation of models like the Acura NSX, Audi R8, and McLaren 720S.
