Introduction - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are the latest members of the E-Class family to get a "mid-cycle" revision that includes updated styling, new engine choices, and mild-hybrid powertrain assist for the first time. The most dramatic of the E-Class models, the Coupe and Cabriolet emphasize elite design and fun-to-drive attributes. For those looking for heavier helpings of both, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupe and Cabriolet should check those boxes.

Unlike the E-Class sedan line, which offers an E 350 with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as the base model, the U.S.-market E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet come in E 450, E 450 4MATIC, and Mercedes-AMG E 53 specification. All three have a turbocharged 6-cylinder with mild-hybrid electric boost, the AMG variant naturally supplying more horsepower and torque.

On sale in late 2020, we expect the 2021 Mercedes E-Class Coupe to have a base price of about $65,000, while the E-Class Cabriolet will have a base price of about $73,000.

Exterior Features - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

Mercedes-Benz calls the 2021 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet the most "emotional" of the E-Class models, and that is certainly reflected in their styling. Both cars were good-looking before the facelift, but now they are even more stunning.

The front end received the most attention. The grille has been given what Mercedes-Benz calls an "A-shape" with a large version of the iconic three-pointed star dead center flanked by single chrome bars. For added drama on the AMG E 53, the "dots" in the grille are chrome-plated.

The renewed front end also features lower-section horizontal headlights with all-LED technology. Among the tricks the high-tech headlamps can perform is produce a torch-flame effect, while the optional Intelligent LED headlamps feature two round lights in a semi-retro touch.

Beyond its nose job, the 2021 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet also get a butt-lift. The three-pointed star is affixed with an integral rear-vision camera inset into the trunk lid, and the taillights have been heavily modified to use LED tech.

Interior Features - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

The high-style theme continues inside the Coupe and Cabriolet. Their interiors maintain a sporty, active flavor while offering the luxurious look and feel of high-quality materials. As an example, open-pore grey ash wood is a new trim option, complemented by genuine leather.

The new seats are worthy of note. Designed for maximum comfort over long hauls at high speeds, the seats are also attractively contemporary, and their operation is smarter than you'd guess. The adaptive driver's seat adjustment uses a high-tech solution to help find the best driving position. After entering the driver's height in the E-Class's display, the seat automatically moves into a height-suggested position. It then only needs fine-tuning by the driver to be, in the words of Goldilocks, "just right."

The seats are available in numerous material combinations ranging from embossed leather to Nappa leather with diamond quilting to sun-reflecting leather, which is a nice touch available on the Cabriolet. The sleek dashboard appears to float across the interior space flowing seamlessly into the door trim. The instrument cluster and the media display can be altered by swiping their touch-control buttons.

Optional Features - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

Mercedes-Benz has not announced the finalized features and options lists for the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, but we are certain the twins will offer a wide variety of options and upgrades.

The Driver Assistance package is one of the most likely options. It includes Active Speed Limit Assist, which uses map data and data from Traffic Sign Assist to automatically respond to changes in the speed limit. The system will anticipate curves, intersections, toll booths, and highway exits to assist the driver in maintaining the appropriate speed.

Four new paint colors are available for the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. They are Cirrus Silver Metallic, Graphite Grey Metallic, Mojave Silver Metallic, and designo Patagonia Red Metallic. You can further dress up your Coupe or Cabriolet with an expanded lineup of optional wheels, including some aerodynamic-inspired versions. Mercedes-Benz says the aero wheels have special design features that help contribute to fuel savings and sustainability.

Under the Hood - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

While the 2021 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet arrive with attractively altered front- and rear-end styling, the biggest news comes under the hood in the form of a new and highly sophisticated powertrain.

The E 450 and E 450 4MATIC models are equipped with a new turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder engine that features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. In total, the powertrain will offer 362 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque with the electric EQ Boost function contributing an extra 21 horsepower.

The 2021 E 450 will be available with rear-wheel drive and the E 450 4MATIC includes all-wheel drive. Both will use a 9-speed automatic transmission. The new powertrain replaces the previous V-6 engine, offering added fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions.

The 2021 AMG E 53 Coupe and Cabriolet will be all-wheel-drive only and will feature a highly-tuned turbocharged version of the E 450’s engine that adds an electric-powered auxiliary compressor to the power plant's already impressive bag of tricks. It will deliver 429 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque delivered through an AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed automatic.

Safety - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

The latest generation of Mercedes-Benz driver assistance systems emphasizes safety and driving ease, and they go the extra mile to make the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet comfortable and safe havens.

Both models are equipped with a new capacitive steering wheel that senses if the driver is gripping it. Previously, the system detected when the driver moved the wheel to prove attention was being paid to the driving experience. With the new system, if the driver does not have hands on the steering wheel for a defined period of time a series of warnings begin, culminating in the activation of Active Brake Assist, which ought to get the driver’s attention.

Active Brake Assist also enables the Coupe and Cabriolet to brake automatically to prevent a collision or mitigate the severity of a collision that can't be avoided. In low-speed urban driving, the system is able to brake for stationary vehicles and pedestrians crossing in front of the car.

Numerous additional active safety systems are available for the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, taking a greater role with regard to steering, braking, and ensuring safe travel. Highlights include active versions of lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot assistance, and a "turning maneuver" forward collision avoidance system designed to prevent collisions in intersections.

Technology - Find the best Mercedes-Benz deals!

The 2021 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are equipped with the newest-generation infotainment system that features massive widescreen displays. The MBUX technology (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) sports two 12.3-inch screens arranged side by side, and they offer four different display styles to suit your mood: Modern Classic, Sport, Progressive and Discreet.

The navigation system's high-tech trick is available augmented reality. When displayed on the screen the navigation system can depict an active video image of the E-Class's surroundings enhanced with helpful information. As one example, street address numbers are automatically superimposed directly onto the image in the display. Another example would be upcoming turn instructions showing the driver exactly where the street it located.

The optional MBUX Interior Assistant allows intuitive, natural operation of various comfort and infotainment functions via gesture recognition.

They may not be something you think about very often, but your vehicle's brakes are one feature that should always be in top working condition. Let's look at how to know when you need new brakes.Look, listenThere are two ways to check for brake wear on disc brakes: by looking and by listening. First, check for wear by looking at your brake pads through the spaces between the wheel's spokes. The outside pad will be pressed against a metal rotor. Generally, there should be at least 1/4 inch of pad. If you see less than 1/4 inch of pad, you may want to have your brake pads inspected or replaced.
