With the cancelation of the Regal Sportback and Regal TourX wagon, the 2021 Buick lineup will contain nothing but SUVs. And just in time to capitalize on the brand’s historic shift away from traditional cars, the redesigned 2021 Buick Envision suggests they won’t be missed.

Aside from a handful of photos and facts, Buick isn’t divulging many details about the all-new 2021 Envision, promising more information closer to the SUV’s arrival in early 2021. But based on what the company is saying and showing, this premium compact SUV might finally make a big splash in its segment.

Exterior Features - Find the best Buick deals!

Lower and wider than the outgoing 2020 Envision, the new 2021 Envision is undeniably attractive. European styling influences are plainly evident, and initial images appear to show the SUV sitting on machined-finish 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Aside from the simulated front and rear skid plates, which aren’t fooling anyone, there isn’t a displeasing design proportion, line, or detail on this SUV.

Interior Features - Find the best Buick deals!

The 2021 Buick Envision lacks rear quarter windows, trading them for wide rear roof pillars and a more sophisticated appearance. In order to maximize rear visibility, Buick equips the Envision with a standard high-definition backup camera and rear parking sensors.

Additional visibility upgrades include a rear camera mirror that provides a live unobstructed video view of what’s behind the SUV, a surround-view camera, and front parking assist sensors. A head-up display is also available, as well as semi-autonomous parking assistance technology.

Optional Features - Find the best Buick deals!

Buick has not defined the new Envision’s lineup but has confirmed that it will offer this SUV in Buick’s Avenir luxury trim level for the first time. Typically, Avenir trim includes upscale exterior styling details, premium leather upholstery, and higher quality interior materials.

Please note that many of the features discussed in other sections of this preview are optional rather than standard equipment.

Under the Hood - Find the best Buick deals!

A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine resides under the Envision’s shapely hood, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. No doubt, the Envision is front-wheel drive with an all-wheel-drive system available as an option. In the outgoing Envision, this engine generates 252 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.

Safety - Find the best Buick deals!

Numerous safety technologies are standard in the new Envision, grouped together in what the company calls a Buick Driver Confidence package. They include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and a vibrating safety alert seat. Options include blind-spot warning, lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning systems.

It’s fair to expect the new Envision will include a rear seat reminder system, which helps drivers to remember that someone or something important might still be in the back seat before they depart the SUV. Additionally, Teen Driver technology, which produces a driving report card for parents after a driving-age child has borrowed the family car, is likely standard.

As part of Buick Connected Services, the Envision will undoubtedly include automatic collision notification and emergency calling systems, though they’ll be part of an extra-cost monthly or annual subscription package.

Buick says the re-envisioned Envision will offer a new touchscreen infotainment system with a 10-inch display, replacing the 8-inch system currently available in Buick models. Confirmed features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa, with integrated apps for Pandora, Spotify, and Fox Sports.

No doubt, Buick Connected Services, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium sound system will also be available.
