Introduction

Nissan introduced an updated 2020 Rogue Sport at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. The small crossover SUV, which is larger than the Kicks but smaller than the standard Rogue, is based on a vehicle known in other parts of the world as the Qashqai. The freshened 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport hits dealerships in the fall of 2019.

Exterior Features

With the 2020 Rogue Sport, Nissan is aiming for a “more technical feel” in order to better distinguish it from the larger Rogue.

To this end, Nissan adds a new hood, grille, and front bumper to give the Rogue Sport a more dramatic “V-Motion” appearance. With SL trim, a new 19-inch aluminum wheel design debuts.

Around the back, the only modification is a set of new combination taillights. Two new paint colors are also available: Nitro Lime and Monarch Orange.

Interior Features

Nissan announced no changes to the Rogue Sport’s interior. The 2020 model will continue to offer S, SV, and SL trim levels, the latter equipped with leather seats, a 360-degree surround view monitoring system, and the top-shelf safety and infotainment technologies.

Under the Hood

Mechanically, the 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport is the same, too. It features a 141-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). An Eco Mode switch helps the SUV to get better fuel economy. All-wheel drive is an option.

Safety

For 2020, Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 suite of driver assistance and collision avoidance systems is standard for the Rogue Sport. It combines features that were already standard, like automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and a rear cross-traffic alert systems, with new pedestrian detection capability, reverse automatic braking, lane departure warning, and automatic high-beam assist systems.

As was true last year, Rear Door Alert is standard, designed to help prevent owners from leaving something, or someone, important inside of the car. Also, the Rogue Sport continues to offer Nissan’s ProPilot Assist system, which equips the SUV with adaptive cruise control and a lane-centering system.

Technology

Nissan says the Rogue Sport’s infotainment system is updated, but did not define how. It continues to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, and a text-messaging assistant. Upgrades, depending on the trim level, include navigation, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, and NissanConnect Services.
