The 2014 Jeep Patriot is a 5-passenger crossover SUV designed to provide the best off-road capability in its segment. For 2014, the Patriot receives a new 6-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous continuously variable transmission (CVT) in most Patriot models. Seat-mounted, side-impact air bags are now standard rather than optional, and while Jeep says the ride and handling are improved, the automaker does not divulge how this is accomplished.

Exterior Features

The 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport is styled to resemble the iconic Jeep Cherokee and is offered in Sport, Latitude and Limited trim levels. The Patriot Sport is equipped with standard fog lights, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, rear window wiper, roof rails, and 16-inch steel wheels.

Interior Features

The 2014 Patriot Sport is equipped with cruise control, tilt steering wheel, floor mats, stereo with an auxiliary audio input jack, outside temperature indicator, illuminated cup holders, and a removable and rechargeable flashlight. Additional standard features include front sliding visors with vanity mirrors, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and rear-seat heating ducts.

Optional Features

Upgrade to the 2014 Jeep Patriot Latitude, and this Jeep comes standard with air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, power heated exterior mirrors, body-color exterior trim, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the Patriot Latitude includes heated front seats, driver seat-height adjuster, reclining rear seat, fold-flat front passenger seat, 115-volt power inverter, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Patriot Limited adds a more powerful standard engine, automatic transmission, upgraded brakes, and extra chrome trim on the outside. Inside, the seats are wrapped in leather, and the Patriot Limited has a power driver seat, automatic climate control system, vehicle information center, and upgraded sound system with satellite radio.

Options for the Patriot, depending on trim level, include a power sunroof, Uconnect Bluetooth connectivity with iPod control, premium audio system with articulating liftgate speakers, and a navigation system. A choice of 4-wheel-drive (4WD) systems is offered for the 2014 Patriot, along with an optional All-weather Capability package equipped with 17-inch all-terrain tires, all-season floor mats, daytime running headlamps, engine block heater, and tow hooks.

Under the Hood

A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard for the 2014 Patriot Sport and Latitude models, paired with front-wheel drive. A manual gearbox is standard for the Sport model, while the Latitude model has a new 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 158 horsepower and 141 lb. ft. of torque.

A 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is optional for the Sport and Latitude models, and standard for the Limited model. The engine delivers 172 horsepower, 165 lb.-ft. of torque, and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Two 4WD systems are offered for the 2014 Patriot. The Freedom Drive I system is an active full-time 4WD system with lockable center coupling to better tackle challenging conditions, such as deep snow or sand.

A Jeep Freedom Drive II Off-road Package is required for the Patriot to deliver Jeep "Trail Rated" capability. A continuously variable transmission is included with this package, equipped with a low range that engages when the Patriot is placed in Off-road Mode. This package provides a 19:1 transmission crawl ratio, skid plates, tow hooks, 17-inch all-terrain tires, full-size spare tire, fog lamps, and manual seat-height adjuster.

The 2014 Jeep Patriot comes standard with new front-seat side-impact air bags, for a total of 6 air bags. Stability control, hill-start assist, and front-disc/rear-drum anti-lock brakes are also included on every model.

Aside from an optional navigation system, the only technology offered for the 2014 Patriot is a Uconnect Bluetooth connectivity system.
