The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 5-passenger SUV designed for serious off-roading capability. It is offered with a choice of a V-6, V-8, or new clean diesel V-6 engine, with either rear- or 4-wheel drive (2WD or 4WD). A new 8-speed transmission improves fuel economy for all models.

Exterior Features

All 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee models have revised front and rear styling, including a shorter grille, slimmer headlights, LED running lights, new tailgate, and larger LED taillights. Rear bumper design and trim are specific to each model series, and all versions except the Laredo are equipped with dual exhaust outlets.

Interior Features

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's interior features a redesigned center control panel with a standard 5-inch Uconnect touch-screen display. A larger 8.4-inch Uconnect screen is offered for the first time in the Grand Cherokee. Regardless of the Uconnect system chosen, the Grand Cherokee supplies radio and climate control knobs beneath the screen.

The 2014 Grand Cherokee is equipped with a new leather-wrapped, 3-spoke steering wheel, leather-wrapped e-Shifter transmission selector on the center console, and a 7-inch reconfigurable TFT display screen. The Laredo trim level features dark wood grain and brushed aluminum-look cabin trim.

Optional Features

Moving up the trim levels, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited adds leather upholstery and upgraded interior trim. The Overland model is equipped with bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights, wood-and-leather steering wheel, stitched leather dashboard, rear-seat ambient lighting, and a CommandView dual-panel sunroof.

A new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit model tops the lineup, with Natura-Plus premium leather and open pore wood cabin trim. Heated and ventilated front seats with memory, imitation suede pillar and roofliner trim, and an 825-watt premium audio system with 19 speakers are also standard on this model.

Under the Hood

For 2014, the Grand Cherokee offers three different engines, not including the high-performance motor installed in the SRT8 model. All are equipped with a new 8-speed automatic transmission that improves fuel economy and quickens acceleration across the range. The new transmission is equipped with standard paddle shifters, offers a default Eco Mode that can be turned off by the driver, and provides a lower 44.1:1 crawl ratio for serious off-road travel.

The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 rated to produce 290 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. It gets 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway whether equipped with 2WD or 4WD, and can tow up to 6,200 pounds.

A 5.7-liter V-8 engine is optional, developing 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is equipped with Fuel Saver cylinder-deactivation technology and is rated to get 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway with 2WD (14 mpg city/21 mpg highway with 4WD). The maximum tow rating is 7,400 pounds.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is also offered with a new 3.0-liter clean EcoDiesel V-6 engine. The extra-cost optional engine generates 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, and tows 7,400 pounds. Jeep says the new Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel V-6 gets 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway with 2WD (20 mpg city/28 mpg highway with 4WD). Maximum travel range is 730 miles on a single tank of gas.

Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II 4WD systems are offered for the 2014 Grand Cherokee. A Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system is standard with Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II, providing Sand, Mud Auto, Snow, and Rock driving settings. For 2014, the technology adds a new Selec-Speed Control feature that allows the driver to modulate hill-ascent and hill-descent control technology using only the paddle shifters.

The 2014 Grand Cherokee continues to offer an optional Quadra-Lift air suspension with five settings: Normal Mode, Off-Road I, Off-Road II, Park Mode, and Aero Mode. The Off-Road II setting adds as much as 4.2 inches of additional clearance, and models with air suspension automatically drop to "Aero Ride height" at speeds above 56 mph in order to improve fuel economy.

For the 2014 model year, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered with a new forward-collision warning with Crash Mitigation safety system, which is designed to identify when a collision is imminent, deliver warnings to a possibly inattentive driver, and in the absence of driver response to warnings, take action to avoid a collision or reduce the severity of the impact.

Every 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with a new 7-inch TFT reconfigurable liquid crystal gauge display. Also, the Grand Cherokee offers Uconnect Access technology with natural voice-command control and hands-free texting capability.
