Introduction

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover is a luxury SUV designed to travel where few vehicles can go without compromising ride and handling on paved roads.

Exterior Features

The Land Rover Range Rover is completely redesigned for the first time in more than a decade, and is the first SUV to employ an all-aluminum unibody structure that is both lighter and stronger than the steel frame used for the departing model, according to the automaker. In the U.S. market, the new Range Rover will weigh 700 pounds less than the previous version.

Highlights of the exterior design include LED running lights, a choice between a body-color or black roof treatment, and a choice between aluminum wheel designs.

Interior Features

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover features a larger cabin with 4.7 inches of additional rear-seat leg room. An acoustically laminated windshield and side door glass helps to create what Land Rover says is "a sensation of serene isolation."

Initial photos of the new Range Rover's cabin reveal full electronic instrumentation, color touch-screen information and entertainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, wood-and-leather steering wheel, and a rotary control knob for changing gears, similar to that found in the Jaguar XF. Perforated leather upholstery, an extended leather treatment, wood paneling, and brushed aluminum trim are shown in the first pictures of the interior.

Optional Features

Individual luxury rear seats and premium Meridian audio systems are among the numerous ways to personalize the new 2013 Range Rover. Photographs also reveal a panoramic glass roof.

Under the Hood

Land Rover has not released specific details about the new Range Rover's powertrain lineup, except to say that "a choice of V-8 engines" will be available in the North American market. The company does confirm that the standard power plant displaces 5.0 liters. For reference, the current model provides a standard 375-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 or an available supercharged version of that engine generating 510 horsepower.

A new 8-speed automatic transmission is standard for 2013. Additionally, the new Range Rover features a redesigned Adaptive Dynamics 4-corner air suspension and a next-generation version of the company's Terrain Response technology.

Safety

The new Range Rover is expected to offer the latest in safety systems, but as this preview is written, we can only confirm that front and rear parking sensors are available.

Technology

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover will use those parking sensors to inform a self-parking system that automatically steers the SUV into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the pedals and transmission.
