2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible Preview

Introduction

Infiniti launched its first convertible model in 1991. It was based on the M30, a luxury-oriented 6-cylinder coupe with seating for up to 4 passengers. The rear-wheel-drive M30 Convertible was short-lived-it was discontinued after the 1992 model year and it was never replaced. The 2009 model year marks Infiniti's return to drop-top motoring with the introduction of the all-new G37 Convertible. Based on the G37 Coupe, the convertible features a 3-piece, power-operated, retractable steel hard top that folds completely into the trunk area at the push of a button. Unlike the fixed-roof G37 Coupe, the convertible model is absent of thick B-pillars, affording a better view outward for the driver when the top is raised, and an unobstructed view when the roof is down, Infiniti says. The all-new G37 Convertible arrives in showrooms in the spring of 2009.

Model Lineup

The 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible is offered as two models: the G37 Convertible and the G37S Convertible. They share identical chassis and engines, but the standard G37 Convertible is fitted with an automatic transmission whereas the G37S Convertible receives a standard 6-speed manual transmission and several performance-oriented upgrades. These include a sport-tuned steering system, larger brakes, and 19-inch aluminum wheels with W-rated performance tires. The G37 Convertible features the Bose Open Air Sound System. The special audio package dynamically changes the sound and equalization based on outside noise, vehicle speed, and the position of the top. The climate control system operates in a similar manner as it adjusts fan speed in accordance to the position of the roof and the vehicle's speed. While Infiniti's RearView monitor is standard on all models, the touch-screen navigation, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Adaptive Front lighting system (AFS) are optional.

Hardware

All 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible models share an identical 3.7-liter 6-cylinder powerplant and rear-wheel-drive powertrain (though all-wheel drive is offered on the , it will not be offered on the Convertible model). The V-6 engine is rated at 325 hp. Power is sent through either an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic (with available magnesium paddle shifters), or a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. The standard wheels are 18-inch cast aluminum on the G37 Convertible, while the G37S Convertible rides on 19-inch wheels and tires.
