Originally named the Hyundai Genesis the Genesis G80 now stands as the entry-level model of Hyundai's new luxury vehicle brand just behind the larger G90 flagship model. For 2018 it receives a more substantial refresh that includes a "Sport" trim level adding a new 3.3L turbocharged V6 engine, an updated 8-speed automatic transmission, bigger brakes, adaptive sport suspension and unique interior styling which includes a 9.2-inch navigation system, chrome trim with copper-colored accents. The remaining G80 trims also receive revised cosmetic exterior and interior styling, LED headlights, a new standard 18-inch wheel design, new instrument cluster and dash with improved interior noise levels utilizing better sound deadening materials. Additionally, Genesis added advanced safety capabilities like Pedestrian Detection and Driver Attention Alert as standard safety features.

The biggest news this year is a change of names. The 2016 Hyundai Genesis returns as the 2017 Genesis G80. Hyundai is following in the footsteps of Toyota, Honda and Nissan by creating their own luxury division, which they've named Genesis. Hyundai hopes to compete with Lexus, Acura and INFINITI. Other than a name change, the 2017 G80 also gets several equipment updates and more standard features. There is a new Premium package available, while many of the items on the old Tech and Signature packages now come standard on the car. With these changes though comes a jump in base price, which now starts at a little over $41,000.

About G80

Launching a new luxury brand, Hyundai chose to branch into the high-end vehicle market with the Genesis nameplate. Based on the vehicle previously known as the Hyundai Genesis sedan, the G80 became the luxury make's premiere model. Debuting as a 2017 model, the Genesis G80 four-door sedan came handsomely equipped with features pleasing premium tastes for comfort, performance and safety. Some of the highlights included standard on the G80 sedan comprises of Automatic Emergency Braking, Smart Cruise Control, power-folding heated side mirrors and navigation system. Double overhead cam engines incorporating gasoline direct injection, 311-horsepower 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 and a 420-horsepower 5.0-liter Tau V-8 powerplant are both available with rear-wheel drive or with an HTRAC all-wheel drive. For the 2018 model year, a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 generating 365 horsepower joins the Genesis G80 lineup. Connected to the 3.3T Sport package, Continuous Damping Control suspension as well as special interior and exterior touches accompany the new engine.
