Polestar Debuting Its Electric SUV, The Polestar 3, In October

Dustin Hawley | Jun 12, 2022

Polestar recently announced that the world premiere of its next car, the highly-anticipated Polestar 3 electric performance SUV, will debut in October. The Polestar 3 will be the company’s first SUV. The launch of the Polestar 3 marks the company’s entrance into one of the highest margin and growth segments currently in the automotive industry.

“Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”

Over time, the Polestar 3 will offer autonomous highway driving powered by the best-in-class LiDAR sensor from Luminar and centralized NVIDIA computing power. At the time of launch, the Polestar 3 will feature a dual-motor drivetrain and a large battery, with a target range of over 600 km (372.8 miles).

Polestar Debuting Polestar

The confirmation of the Polestar 3 world premiere comes complete with a new film and a sneak peek at the first undisguised image of the car. With production expected to begin in early 2023, customers in the initial launch markets can expect to order the new Polestar 3 from the day of its premiere.

Thomas Ingenlath adds: “This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.”

Beginning with the Polestar 3, the company has stated that it plans to launch a new car every year for the next three years, with a goal to increase its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023. This initiative supports the automakers’ aim to grow global sales ten-fold, from approximately 29,000 in 2021 to approximately 290,000 by the end of 2025.
