When the new electric Ford F-150 Lightning full-size pickup truck goes on sale in the spring of 2022, it will cost as little as $39,974 before applying the maximum $7,500 federal income tax credit or any state or local rebates and incentives. The better-equipped Lightning XLT will cost $52,974.
“We’re not here to make an electric truck for the few – Ford is committed to building one that solves real problems for real people,” said Kumar Galhotra, Ford president, Americas and International Markets Group, Ford Motor Company, in a statement.
In addition to the stripped-down commercial model and the XLT, the new F-150 Lightning comes in Lariat and Platinum trim levels. Ford says the Platinum version of the truck will cost as much as $90,474. Ford is now taking reservations for the F-150 Lightning and requires $100 to hold your place in line.
Ford announced details of the F-150 Lightning on May 19, 2021. It is the second of three vehicles in the automaker’s initial electrification strategy, joining the existing Mustang Mach-E crossover and the upcoming E-Transit full-size cargo and passenger van.
Available only in Super Crew (crew cab) format with a short cargo bed, the F-150 Lightning is available with a standard- or extended-range battery and a dual-motor 4-wheel-drive system. Depending on the configuration, it will supply up to 300 miles of estimated driving range, 2,000 pounds of payload capacity, and 10,000 lbs. of towing capacity. The quickest version gets to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.
Recharging at home takes between eight and 14 hours, depending on the truck and the charging station. Use a 150 kilowatt DC fast charger, and you can take the battery from 15% to 80% in as few as 41 minutes. The F-150 Lightning offers exportable power capability and can power a typical home during an outage for up to three days.
Additionally, the new F-150 Lightning comes with the latest Sync 4 infotainment technology and Ford’s hands-free BlueCruise driving assistance system. You can even use your smartphone as a digital key to operate the truck.
