Bentley commemorates the remarkable W12 engine, which has powered its performance flagships since 2003, with the all-new limited-edition Speed Edition 12. As a fitting tribute to this exceptional engineering accomplishment, the Speed Edition 12 models showcase the most successful 12-cylinder engine of the modern era.
Based on the Speed specification Bentayga, Flying Spur, Continental GT, and Continental GT Convertible, the Edition 12 package boasts several unique design enhancements. These include Edition 12 badging, a numbered engine plaque, Edition 12 embroidery, color-graduated seat contrast stitching, and a Grand Black veneer fascia featuring the engine firing sequence etched next to an inlaid Edition 12 badge.
With a limited production of just 120 units of each of the four models, the Speed Edition 12 is poised to become a rare and highly sought-after homage to the engine that has powered Bentley's cars and its success for the past two decades.
Introduced in 2003, the W12 engine marked a new era for Bentley as the powertrain for the first all-new model under Volkswagen Group ownership, the Continental GT. The unique W-formation of the 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine allowed it to be 24% shorter than a comparable V12 without sacrificing power, efficiency, or refinement. Since then, the engine has seen a 37% increase in power, a 54% increase in torque, and a 25% reduction in emissions. In the Speed Edition 12 models, the W12 now generates up to 659 PS (650 bhp) @ 5000-6000 rpm, while the famed Bentley 'tidal wave' of torque peaks 900 Nm at just 1500 rpm and continues unabated up to 5000 rpm.
Externally, the Speed Edition 12 models feature subtle yet carefully curated details, making them instantly recognizable to enthusiasts. Among these distinctive elements are silver brake calipers, exclusive to this edition. Continental GT and Convertible models sport Speed Edition 12 badging on the front fender, while Bentayga and Flying Spur models carry Edition 12 badges on the rear quarter alongside the existing Speed badge. Opening the bonnet reveals a numbered Edition 12 plaque prominently displayed on the engine cover.
Other exterior features include 22" black painted Speed alloy wheels and self-leveling wheel badges. A new paint color, Opalite, is available as an option: a light grey-green hue with a subtle copper effect that glows in bright sunshine.
Inside, the Edition 12 models offer hand-crafted individuality, with welcome lamps and illuminated treadplates greeting driver and passengers. All Edition 12 models come with Bentley's Speed color splits, with the primary color, Beluga black, either as the sole upholstery color or paired with Brunel blue, Cricketball red, Linen, or Orange.
This limited edition's unique features include seats with Mulliner Silver piping and embroidered Edition 12 namestyle, quilted upper seat areas with contrast stitching in a graduated three-color 'fade' from Anthracite through Porpoise to Stratos, and contrast-stitched quilted door panels.
The organ stop air vents showcase the numeral '12' machined from solid on the face of the control. The Grand Black veneer facia facing the front seat passenger displays the W12 engine's firing sequence etched alongside an inlaid Speed Edition 12 badge.
As a final touch, customers will receive a precise 15% scale model of the Bentley W12 block as a commemorative artifact for display. Cast using aluminum from a full-size W12 engine block, the scale model W12 engines serve as a permanent memento of one of Bentley's most significant and powerful engines.
