2021 Ford Ranger Tremor Takes Off-Roading to Next Level

Liz Kim | Sep 14, 2020

Last year, Ford introduced the boulder-bashing Tremor off-road package for the full-size 2020 F-Series Super Duty pickup truck. Now, the automaker is applying the same principles to the midsize 2021 Ranger.

Available with XLT and Lariat trim levels, the new 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor Off-Road Package adds $4,290 to the price of a SuperCrew with 4-wheel drive. Ford is proud to announce that the package does not compromise the Ranger’s 1,430-pound maximum payload or its 7,500-lb. towing capacity.

At the heart of the new Ranger Tremor Package is increased capability when the trail turns gnarly. A lifted suspension with off-road Fox shocks and revised springs forms the basis of the package, while a set of 32-inch all-terrain tires widens the truck’s stance by an inch.

Compared to a standard-specification Ranger SuperCrew with 4WD, the Tremor Package increases ground clearance by 0.8 inches to 9.7 inches. The front suspension offers 6.5 inches of added wheel travel, while the rear suspension gains an additional 8.1 inches of travel.

Approach, breakover, and departure angles are also improved. Approach increases by 2.2 degrees to 30.9 degrees. Breakover is better by 2.7 degrees to 24.2 degrees. You’ll still need to watch the tail, though, because departure angle rises just 0.1 degree to 25.5 degrees.

The suspension changes also provide more ride compliance on pavement and better control off-road, helping to keep the truck planted when barreling over hill and dale. And if you go too fast, the Tremor Package also includes a frame-mounted front bash plate, along with underbody skid plates to protect the truck’s belly.

Additional features include a rear locking differential, Ford’s Terrain Management technology with four drive modes, and a revised traction control system. Wider wheel housings cover the 32-inch tires, and hoop-style step rails, rear recovery hooks, and a six-switch auxiliary power bank on the dashboard are exclusive to the package.

Visually, the Tremor features a Magnetic Gray-painted grille with matching 17-inch wheels, Tremor stickers on the sides of the bed, and some gaudy optional body graphics. Inside, you’ll find simulated suede seat inserts, black trim pieces, and stitched Tremor badging.

Ford will start building the 2021 Ranger Tremor in Wayne, Michigan early next year.
