The new 2025 Rivian R1T may look nearly identical to its predecessor, but the automaker builds the next-generation electric pickup truck on what it says is a new platform, giving it significant technological, performance, and range improvements.
Rivian offers the new 2025 R1T in five trim levels, including two new premium Ascend trims. The lineup includes the R1T Adventure Dual Standard, R1T Adventure Dual Large, R1T Adventure Dual Max, R1T Ascend Tri-Max, and R1T Quad Max. The number of electric motors, horsepower figures, and estimated range vary depending on the trim and battery pack.
If you think the exterior of the 2025 Rivian R1T looks nearly identical to the previous version of the truck, you would be right. The new R1T's design remains relatively untouched. The updated headlights and taillights keep the same signature design.
A software update will add an Adaptive Drive Beam feature for the headlights later this year. This feature bends the light into corners and curves as you drive to improve nighttime visibility, and they will automatically adapt to oncoming traffic.
Rivian also offers the 2025 R1T with new Storm Blue paint, fresh wheel and tire choices, and a trendy blacked-out appearance upgrade.
The changes to the 2025 Rivian R1T's interior are minor. The truck features two natural wood trim options on the steering wheel, the surrounds of the two digital displays, and the dashboard.
The R1T has plenty of storage space, and charging ports are sprinkled throughout the cabin. Rivian provides a flashlight in the door and a Dynamic Glass Roof, which will tint darker at the push of a button.
Electric vehicles (EVs) can be extremely quick off the line thanks to the nearly instantaneous power electric motors provide, and the 2025 Rivian R1T is no exception. It offers standard Dual-Motor and newly available Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor configurations. In addition, Rivian now designs, engineers, and builds the electric motors in-house.
Impressively, the Quad-Motor drive system makes 1,025 horsepower and can produce 1,198 pound-feet of torque when using Launch Mode. Rivian claims the Quad-Motor version of the truck can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds.
Three battery pack options are also available, allowing for further customization. The Standard pack has an EPA-estimated range of 270 miles, while the new Max battery pack offers an estimated range of up to 420 miles.
Lastly, the R1T boasts an updated suspension with air springs for a smoother ride.
Thanks to the new Rivian Autonomy Platform, the 2025 R1T offers an impressive selection of standard advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). Eleven cameras, five radars, and AI prediction technology enhance the ADAS, allowing it to see and sense farther than before, even under challenging conditions.
Highway Assist is standard, a hands-on driving assistance system that combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance. Enhanced Highway Assist with Lane Change on Command, a hands-free system part of the Rivian Autonomy Platform+, is coming later.
In addition, the R1T offers digital key technology, allowing you to share the truck's keys, lock and unlock it, and even start it from your device. You can store the digital key in a digital wallet on an iPhone, Apple Watch, or Google Pixel device.
Rivian collaborated with Dolby to produce an immersive premium audio system. Connect+, Rivian's new subscription-based connected service plan, is available on all R1T models. It allows you to stream videos via Google Cast, provides access to over 3,000 apps, and offers a free Apple Music subscription.
While the second-generation 2025 Rivian R1T gets only a few design updates, the new R1 platform underneath the truck promises to make it more competitive in a growing segment of EVs with cargo beds. The 2025 R1T faces a list of rivals, including the Chevrolet Silverado EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Sierra EV, Ram 1500 REV, and Tesla Cybertruck.
