Toyota MR2 Spyder Model Years and History

About MR2 Spyder

The MR2 Spyder returned to showroom floors in 2000, offering a direct competition to the Mazda Miata with only 5,000 being built. Following the new model, no changes were in store for 2001, with a new Formula One-style five-speed manual transmission being the only addition for 2002. A long list of updates were in store for 2003. These included: new front and rear bumpers, new head lamps and fog lamps, updated side air intakes, new turn signals and reverse lights, a new rear grille, a new powered antenna, chrome accents and updates to the options. 2004 would see no major updates, with a new audio system being introduced in 2005, the final year of production.
