In 1998, standard side-impact airbags debuted for the Oldsmobile Silhouette, which now featured a shorter wheelbase. The 3.6-liter V6 engine got more horsepower and torque with a new anti-theft system and heated side-view mirrors being added as standard equipment for 1999. 2000 saw a major change to the wheelbase, with the 120 wheelbase becoming the standard across all trim levels. A new gauge cluster was introduced alongside an updated audio system and new interior lighting. Major changes were in store for 2001. A new air suspension system was introduced with updated second-row captains chairs, a quieter interior was lauded, and big changes were made to all trim levels. 2002 held no changes. But 2003 saw the addition of traction control and 16 wheels as standard features. Remote entry was the only big update in store for the 2004 model year.
