About Optima Plug-In Hybrid

Redesigned during the 2016 model year, the longer, wider new generation Kia Optima continued to boldly define itself as an athletically styled sedan. One year after the mid-sized sedan's re-engineering, the Optima was joined by a new line of electrified models. Along with a second generation Optima Hybrid, Kia added an all-new Optima Plug-In Hybrid. Capable of travelling up to 27 miles on full EV mode, the Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid's primary power comes from a 50-kilowatt electric motor mounted in the vehicle's transmission. A 9.6-Kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack can be recharged in under three hours using 240-volt charging. Beyond the electric range of the 2017 Optima Plug-In Hybrid, a 154-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine featuring gasoline direct injection proceeds to provide high efficiency travel. Through combined city and highway driving, the electric/gasoline powered hybrid sedan can achieve fuel economy of 40 miles per gallon. The Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid touts a coefficient of drag equal to the Tesla Model S. Comparing closely to the appearance of the Kia Optima Hybrid, the Optima Plug-In Hybrid's most notable difference is a driver's side electric charging port. Available only as an EX model for 2017, the plug-in hybrid sedan comes standard equipped with leather seating, a Harman/Kardon QuantumLogic Premium Surround sound system and Kia's UVO eServices Infotainment System.
