SelectBrowse ListingsChevrolet’s short wheelbase version of their full-sized sport utility vehicle line added a hybrid model for the 2008 model year. The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid became one of the largest hybrid sport utility vehicles to be introduced to the general consumer marketplace with the use of a two-mode transmission. A specially developed four-speed automatic gearbox, the two-mode transmission’s mechanical gears interacts with electric motors. Mimicking the performance abilities of a continuously variable transmission, the gearbox of the 2008 Tahoe Hybrid presents better fuel economy through more efficient delivery of engine power. In addition to the two-mode transmission, the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid’s electrical powertrain included a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack and regenerative braking. Gasoline engine power for the Tahoe Hybrid was sourced from a 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 engine generating 332 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. Auto Stop mode and electric power steering were also components aiding the smooth function of the hybrid gasoline/electric propelled sport utility vehicle. Offered as a rear-wheel drive as well as a four-wheel drive variant, the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid boasted fuel economy of up to 22 miles per gallon on the highway. On the four-wheel drive model, overall fuel efficiency was 20 miles per gallon. Mild exterior alterations made to the 2008 Tahoe Hybrid included a slightly large grille and the elimination of the roof rack side rails for better aerodynamic efficiency. The Tahoe Hybrid’s interior featured a full array of premium equipment. The dashboard center console included a standard 6.5-inch full-color display screen serving an audio, navigation, back-up camera and hybrid power management display. Leather heated seats and a Bose premium speaker system was standard. From 2008 to 2013, only minor enhancements were made to the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.
