About HHR

Introduced for the 2006 model year, the Chevrolet HHR was a strikingly distinct example of retro styling and utility. Borrowing inspiration from vehicles of the 1949 Suburban, the HHR follows the Chevrolet SSR that fused sports car with compact pickup truck. A less provocative vehicle presentation than the SSR, the Chevrolet HHR found a following as a small family vehicle as well as a commercial vehicle. Officially classified as a truck, the vehicle shared many mechanical details with the Chevrolet Cobalt compact car. Offered in LS and LT trim levels, the 2006 Chevrolet HHR came with standard six-speaker stereo, air conditioning, power windows and remote keyless entry.

The LT model added features such as eight-way power driver seat and 16-inch aluminum wheels. Featuring a five-passenger interior, the space can accommodate up to 63. 1 cubic feet of cargo when the rear seat would be folded down. Two Ecotec engines were available for the 2006 model year HHR with a 2.2-liter and a 2.4-liter choice offered. Throughout its run, the Chevrolet HHR was available only as a front-wheel drive vehicle. For 2008, a panel van style version of the Chevrolet HHR became available as a way to attract commercial vehicle buyers. On all 2008 HHR models, OnStar and StabiliTrak electronic stability control is added standard. Big additions for the Chevrolet compact utility vehicle also came in 2009 when an SS model was introduced.

Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter direct-injected generating up to 260 horsepower, the 2009 Chevrolet HHR SS also came equipped with performance touches such as a unique front fascia, rear spoiler and 18-inch forged aluminum wheels. Models powered by naturally aspirated engines received FlexFuel compatibility and standard XM Satellite radio in 2009. When production of the HHR ended in 2011, Chevrolet was left without a compact utility vehicle in the United States until the arrival of the Trax in 2015.
