A redesigned 2024 Porsche Macan is coming soon, and it's electric. It joins the Taycan as Porsche's second electric vehicle, and the automaker will sell it alongside the existing Macan with internal combustion engines (ICE). You can order the electric Macan now, and the first deliveries will take place in the second half of the year.

The electric 2024 Macan is instantly familiar yet clearly different from its predecessor. It remains a small five-passenger crossover emphasizing style and performance and is available as the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. A dual-motor electric drive system propels all four wheels, and prices start at nearly $80,000.
If you're wondering why Porsche uses the Turbo name on a vehicle that clearly has no turbocharged powertrain, a company spokesperson told me the automaker views the term Turbo as a designation of the highest-performing version of one of its vehicles. As with the Taycan Turbo, the new 2024 Macan Turbo offers the highest-performing version of the electric Macan.

Porsche will continue selling the old Macan with its internal combustion engines (ICE), but the new electric Macan will stand apart with its familiar yet more technical design. Slightly longer and wider than the Macan ICE, the Macan Electric gets a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, and available 22-inch wheels, giving it a distinctive appearance.
New LED headlights feature a two-tier design. The upper section has a four-point daytime running light integrated into the fenders' leading edges, emphasizing the Macan's width. The primary headlights are lower, embedded into the front fascia, and almost unnoticeable when switched off. At the rear, Porsche connects the taillights with a light bar that spans the width of the hatch.
A Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system enhances the Macan EV's efficiency. It uses active cooling flaps in the front air intakes, an adaptive rear spoiler, and a new air diffuser at the rear to reduce the drag coefficient to just 0.25, making the new Macan one of the most aerodynamic crossovers available.

As a crossover SUV, the 2024 Macan sits higher than a typical Porsche sports car. However, as I learned during a virtual reality reveal event for the media, the new cabin provides more of a cockpit feel than the Macan ICE. Of course, until butts are in seats, that remains to be seen.
Drivers face a 12.6-inch curved digital instrument panel, and a center-mounted 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display is standard. You can opt for an additional 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger. Porsche keeps climate functions separate and includes physical controls for easy access. An integrated LED light strip spans the dashboard and into the doors, providing ambient lighting and communicating warnings and other information.
Another benefit of the new Macan's electric powertrain is improved utility. The cargo area provides 18 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seat, and folding it increases the space to 46.5 cu-ft. There's also an additional 2.9 cu-ft in the front trunk (frunk) under the hood.

Two dual-motor drive systems are available in the 2024 Porsche Macan Electric. The Macan 4 generates 402 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, moving this crossover to 60 mph in a claimed 4.9 seconds. According to Porsche, the Macan Turbo boasts a massive 630 hp and 833 lb-ft of torque, sprinting it to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. In addition, the Macan Turbo has a top speed of 161 mph.
The front-axle motor is the same on both Macans, but the Turbo gets a more powerful rear-axle motor. The Macan Turbo also features Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, an electronically controlled locking rear differential that provides additional stability during enthusiastic driving.
The battery and its 800-volt architecture comprise the newly developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The new Macan is the first Porsche built on the PPE, and with this new platform, the 100-kilowatt-hour battery (95 kWh of usable power) integrates into the vehicle's underbody.
The electric Macan can charge at speeds up to 270 kW on a DC fast charger, bringing the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes (under ideal conditions). Using a Level 2 home charging station, the Macan Electric can accept power at up to 11 kilowatts. Porsche says efficiency and range information will be available closer to the on-sale date.
An air suspension featuring Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is standard on both variants and should provide a comfortable ride while delivering excellent handling.
Porsche also offers rear-axle steering for the first time on a Macan. Able to turn to a maximum of five degrees, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels at slow speeds for improved maneuverability. At higher speeds, they turn in the same direction for better stability.

As of this writing, Porsche has not released details of the advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) it will install in the upcoming Macan Electric.
However, a company spokesperson said the new Macan will be available with Porsche InnoDrive. InnoDrive uses an adaptive cruise control system with lane-centering assistance to provide a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance system.
Porsche expects to release more detailed information about the safety features of the Macan Electric closer to the on-sale date.

Porsche equips the new Macan Electric with a new infotainment system built on the Android Automotive operating system. It uses a 10.9-inch touchscreen, provides wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an improved conversational digital voice assistant that activates when you say, "Hey, Porsche."
A second 10.9-inch touchscreen display is available for the front passenger to use. In addition, the new Porsche Driver Experience technology equips the Macan Electric with a head-up display featuring augmented reality that integrates navigation directions into a real-world view. Porsche says the system projects the image onto the windshield and is like looking at an 87-inch display.
With the arrival of the 2024 Macan Electric, Porsche brings a new level of performance, efficiency, and technological sophistication to its small crossover SUV. However, the electric Macan doesn't come cheaply and can cost substantially more than similarly sized alternatives. Rivals in the same price class include the Audi SQ8 E-tron, BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, and Tesla Model X, all larger than the Porsche.
