With the introduction of the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S, the legendary off-road SUV brand is finally going all-electric in its home market.

Jeep offers the all-new, five-passenger 2024 Wagoneer S electric SUV in a single four-door body style. In its inaugural year, the Wagoneer S will be available exclusively in Launch Edition specification (the 2025 model year will undoubtedly bring additional trim levels). Dual electric motors—one each at the front and back—provide all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability.

Though it shares a name with the three-row Wagoneer (and even more posh Grand Wagoneer) full-size SUV, make no mistake: the Wagoneer S is its own thing. It rides on a dedicated electric-vehicle platform that underpins several other EV-capable models produced by parent automaker Stellantis.
Distinguishing exterior characteristics of the new Wagoneer S include an enclosed, seven-slot, illuminated front grille, integrated body fins, flush pocket-door handles, and a roof-mounted rear wing. Indeed, many of the SUV's design elements directly resulted from the automaker's desire to make the Wagoneer S as aerodynamic as possible. With a 0.29 drag coefficient, the automaker says the Wagoneer S is the most aerodynamic Jeep SUV ever built.
The only trim available for 2024 is the Launch Edition, which features exclusive dark accents, 20-inch gloss-black wheels, gloss black and dark neutral gray exterior treatments, and absolutely no chrome. Anywhere. Instead, Jeep designers opted for more environmentally friendly materials. Additional Launch Edition stylistic elements include satin-painted accent trim and a large, dual-pane panoramic moonroof.

Unlike Jeeps of yore, the interior of the new Wagoneer S is quite stylish and forward-looking. A collection of high-resolution displays spans almost the entire width of the dashboard. Below the central infotainment display is another digital screen housing climate controls. Jeep also uses lighting technology throughout the cabin to create mood and ambiance.
One distinguishing interior design element is what Jeep describes as a "cross-car wing sculpture" that spans the entire vehicle width at the bottom of the dashboard. That and the twin-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel give the Wagoneer S some stylistic flair. Interestingly, the steering wheel features a new Cabo vinyl anti-microbial surface coating, which Jeep says makes it easier to keep things spic and span.
Jeep is proud to use environmentally friendly materials in the SUV's cabin. Indeed, synthetic leather trims the seats, center console, instrument panel, and doors. Additionally, the headliner and carpets are made from recycled materials. Jeep also notes that the Wagoneer S is the only EV in its segment with standard heated and ventilated rear seats. A rearview camera mirror, a wireless charging pad, and a power liftgate are also standard.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S employs dual electric motors—one at each axle—giving the electric crossover AWD capability. Horsepower and torque figures are 600 and 617 pound-feet, respectively. The SUV uses a 400-volt architecture and draws power from a 100-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery pack. Jeep says this combination nets an estimated range above 300 miles and that the Wagoneer S gets 99 MPGe.
Although it's an EV, the Wagoneer S is, after all, a Jeep. So, it stands to reason that the automaker would endow it with at least some off-roading ability. Indeed, the new Wagoneer S comes standard with Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system with five drive modes: Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand. If that's not enough, the recently announced Jeep Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept promises true all-electric off-road capability when it inevitably comes to market.
According to Jeep, the Wagoneer S is no slouch regarding on-road performance. It claims a zero-to-60-mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph. Don't be surprised if Jeep announces a high-performance, track-ready version soon.
Jeep says a DC fast charger can re-energize the Wagoneer S battery from 20 to 80 percent in just 23 minutes. Launch Edition buyers get a free 48-amp Level 2 home charger or public charging credits, courtesy of Jeep. The automaker uses Free2move Charge as its chosen EV charging provider. The app lets you find nearby charging stations, activate the charging session, and track your EV's charging history.
The Wagoneer S rides on 20-inch wheels (21-inch wheels optional) with all-season tires and can tow 3,400 pounds.

Jeep says that the Launch Edition Wagoneer S will come equipped with Active Driving Assist, the automaker's hands-on driver-assistance technology. Intersection turn assistance, a driver monitoring system, traffic-sign recognition, and a surround-view camera are also on board. Over-the-air software updates will ensure your Wagoneer S has the latest and greatest software to power its various safety and driver-assistance technologies.
If you like display screens, the Jeep Wagoneer S might be your jam. This SUV offers more than 45 inches of screen space. The driver faces a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, another 12.3-inch infotainment screen perches atop the center stack, and there’s a 10.25-inch display with HDMI connectivity for the front passenger. Another screen at the bottom of the center stack houses climate controls.
The driver's screen displays helpful information such as battery state of charge, battery health, available power, and when the SUV is parked and plugged in, the current charging status pops up when the vehicle detects the key fob. Meanwhile, the center display is the gateway to the improved Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The segment-exclusive, interactive passenger screen enables you to connect with the infotainment system to entertain yourself or help the driver by pulling up directions.
If you tire of looking at all those screens, you can switch on the segment-exclusive, 19-speaker McIntosh premium audio system. It cranks out 1,200 watts and features a 12-inch subwoofer.
Regarding connectivity, Jeep Connect—the automaker's suite of connected services—is available as part of the Assistance and Navigation package. Buyers can also opt for the Safety and Security package for up to 10 years.
With the all-new 2024 Wagoneer S EV, Jeep is finally dipping its toe into the all-electric pool, where some competitors, like the Tesla Model X, have been frolicking for years. Still, give Jeep (and parent Stellantis) credit for going all-in on what appears to be a solid first effort. It will be interesting to see how the new Wagoneer S and the inevitable sub-models that Jeep comes up with fare against the Cadillac Lyriq, Kia EV9, Rivian R1S, and Model X.
