Genesis has made a name for itself with cars that defy traditional luxury brand logic. The Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) subsidiary offers a range of models that, while not cheap, are far from the economic heavyweights that their European counterparts are. The G70 is integral to the Genesis lineup, bringing competent sports sedan performance with striking styling and great tech. The car got a facelift for the 2022 model year, which also ended its manual transmission option. For 2024, Genesis is updating the car again, this time with a new turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and an updated interior.

The 2024 G70 retains its twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 option, and Genesis equips all variants with a new Brembo braking system. Genesis has yet to announce pricing or exact release date details at the time of writing. However, expect the car to land in early 2024 with a price point slightly higher than its current starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of around $40,000.

The G70 has always been a looker; the 2024 model will continue that tradition. It retains its striking split-LED running lights and large honeycomb grille, and though it’s of modest size, the car’s sculpted sides and flowing lines give it a sense of grandeur. Genesis revised its logos for 2024, with the G70 getting a Guilloche pattern engraved into the metal. There are also two new exterior colors: Vatna Gray and Kawah Blue. Genesis says the “volcanic landscapes of Iceland and Indonesia” inspired the colors.
For 2024, Genesis updates the already elegant interior, bringing new color themes, including a black/gray option and a black/beige theme. Genesis says it refined the controls and functional details for the new model year. The automaker also moved to a touch-based interface. The car retains its driver-focused cockpit feel, and the elegant design should carry over mostly unchanged. That means diamond-stitched upholstery and upscale materials throughout. Synthetic leather comes standard, but genuine leather is available. Top trim levels add ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

While the G70 carries on with two engine choices in 2024, Genesis has enhanced the entry-level turbo-four. The automaker gave the 2.5-liter unit a boost to 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque—an increase of 48 hp over the outgoing car. The available twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 makes 365 hp and 376 pound-feet of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission, new Brembo performance brakes, and rear-wheel drive come standard. However, some configurations are available with all-wheel drive.
The new G70 has a 10.25-inch touchscreen that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, over-the-air updates, and more. A 6-speaker stereo is standard, but a Lexicon premium stereo with 15 speakers is available. Like parent company HMG’s infotainment software, Genesis’ interface is straightforward and intuitive, making it less distracting to use while driving. The cabin’s excellent ergonomics also make it easy to see and reach the touchscreen, further improving driver focus.
The G70 may be a compelling option, but the mainstay German sedans remain the benchmark. The Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class are the top dogs among sporty entry-level luxury sedans. While they’re all more expensive, that money buys cars with excellent balance and tuning, forward-looking tech, and attractive styling.
