The Land Rover Discovery is a storied name in the British automaker’s lineup. After going on hiatus in the 2005 model year the Discovery badge returns as a seven-seat sport-utility vehicle. The Discovery’s profile will be foreign to people familiar with the name. The horizontally themed dash is punctuated by a widescreen-ratio touchscreen for infotainment and a similarly wide center console. Base Discoveries are powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that makes 340 horsepower. Those seeking a bit more torque can opt for the optional 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 with 254 horsepower. No matter the engine power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. In its most efficient form which is with the turbodiesel engine the EPA says the Discovery is capable of fuel economy in the mid 20s. The Discovery comes with standard active safety tech including automatic emergency braking active lane control and blind-spot monitors. Adaptive cruise control is available. Priced from the low $50 000s the Discovery comes standard with power features dual-pane fixed sunroofs leather seats dual-zone climate control and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Options include air suspension heated rear seats three rows of seats upgraded leather and low-range transfer case.
