Volvo enters the 2009 model year with a nine-vehicle product line consisting of three sedans, three wagons, a compact hatchback and crossover vehicle. A five-speed manual transmission used in previous years is no longer offered on the 2009 Volvo S40 resulting in a standard five-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox on all versions of the sedan. 2009 S60 models receive added standard luxury equipment such as a power sunroof and leather seating. Also included on all Volvo S60s for 2009 is a Geartronic automatic transmission. The 2009 model year features the deployment of Volvo's R-Design. Appearing on the C30, S40, V50 and XC90 models, the R-Design moniker symbolizes a grander presentation of sportiness with unique exterior and interior details.
