The Construction Code label is metal, red in color with silver lettering, and is permanently attached to the rear exterior siding of each transportable section; per HUD Title VI Regulations effective 6/15/76.
This document will verify the following:
- Manufacturer's Name
- Trade/Model Name
- Year of Manufacture
- Serial Number
- HUD Construction Code Label(s) Numbers
- HUD Construction Zones
Per 1976 HUD Regulation, this form is to be affixed inside the home on or near the main electrical breaker box or other readily visible/accessible location and is printed on paper or foil stock 8-1/2" x 11" to 8-1/2" x 14" in size. Some manufacturers also use this form for modular homes.
Technically, if a label is missing or if modifications/alterations have been made without proper permit/inspections, the structure cannot be offered for sale or occupied. This HUD label(s) is the same as a local building and safety department’s permit and/or certificate of occupancy, to assure safety and livability.
HUD does not offer replacement labels from their offices. However, upon request from an interested party, the national monitoring contractor, Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), will review their records and indicate that, at the time of manufacture the home was issued a HUD label number(s). The interested party has the option to use this information in any manner they wish. This applies to homes manufactured from June 15, 1976 and newer only.
The serial number for each floor section is required for request.
