The TRD Pro off-road model is getting a new exclusive Solar Octane color, and the TRD Sport is now available in Electric Lime paint. The TRD Off-Road crew cab with four-wheel drive and the V6 engine is a popular choice, and it comes standard with an electronic locking rear differential. Recommended is the Technology package with options, which includes upgraded front lighting with LED elements as well as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.

The launch of the tacoma in 1998 had a styled front end, new option packages, a standard side passenger airbag and new upper trim level enhancements. Added new front seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters were the big safety updates for 1999, with subtle changes being made to various trim levels and several new color options being added.
All four-cylinder Tacomas got a slight power boost for 2000, with better gear shifting and new interior designs as well as updated side mirrors. The Double Cab was unveiled for 2001, with several new trim levels, new alloy wheels and a few new body colors. No major changes were in store for 2002, with antilock brakes being made standard for 2003. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution was made standard in 2004, with Vehicle Stability Control and traction control being added to all V6 models.
In 2005, an all-new Tacoma was unveiled. The Tacoma got a tire-pressure monitor as a standard feature for 2006. New front seats and an updated audio system were the big changes for 2007. No changes were in store for 2008, with stability control and traction control being made standard in 2009. 2010 would see no major changes, but 2011 yielded a better four-cylinder engine, an updated front grille, and air conditioning was made standard across all models. Revised styling on the interior and exterior and updated technology rounded out the updates for 2012. 2013 was much of the same, with changes being made to upper trim levels for 2014.
