2010 FJ Cruiser

Toyota's FJ Cruiser sees some important mechanical upgrades for 2010. Power from the 4.0L V6 increases from 239 hp to 258 hp, while fuel economy increases by 1 mpg, to 18 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. This is thanks in large part to the addition of variable valve timing and roller rocker arms. Minor suspension changes reduce the FJ's turning radius by more than a foot, and a new Army Green exterior color replaces VooDoo Blue.

2008 FJ Cruiser

The 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser is little changed from the 2007 debut model. In the realm of safety, side air bags and side curtain air bags are now standard equipment. Gone is the TRD Special Edition, though much of its beefy equipment has been integrated into the new Trail Teams Special Edition, a truck limited to 3,200 units, which gets an exclusive Iceberg White paint job with black trim. Black Cherry Pearl exterior paint has been discontinued, though Brick Red and Sandstorm have been added. Pricing across the range climbed about $500.

2007 FJ Cruiser

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is all new for 2007, and it is based on the 4Runner chassis. Its styling echoes the Toyota FJ40 that was sold in the U.S. from 1960 to 1984. The new FJ uses a 239-horsepower 4.0L V6 engine, which makes it a hoot to drive. A five-speed automatic transmission can be ordered on any FJ Cruiser, while a six-speed manual is reserved for four-wheel-drive variants.

About FJ Cruiser

Revived in 2007, the Toyota FJ Cruiser offered a compact and modern SUV with an attractive entry-level price tag and plenty of options to choose from. Standard side curtain airbags and updates to upper trim levels marked the only changes for the 2008 FJ Cruiser. Roll-sensing side curtain airbags, active front-seat headrest and updates to options rounded out the changes for 2009.

A beefed-up engine with more horsepower and better gas mileage was the big change for the 2010 FJ Cruiser. An updated audio system, roomier and more accessible rear seating and folding rear headrests were the big changes for 2011. No major updates were in store for model years 2012-2013. In 2014, the last year of production, a limited, Ultimate Edition model was unveiled to woo in loyalists buyers for one last hoorah.
