SelectBrowse ListingsThe big news for 2008 is that a new Hybrid model, with GM's new 2-Mode hybrid system and a fuel economy improvement of up to 25 percent, joins the Yukon lineup. SelectBrowse ListingsFirst sold in the 2008, the GMC Yukon Hybrid came to fruition thanks to an industry technical partnership between General Motors, Chrysler, Daimler AG and BMW. Creating what would be known as a two-mode hybrid transmission, the technology incorporated two electric motors interacting within a four-speed automatic gearbox. Powered through a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, the two-mode hybrid transmission operates in a similar manner to a continuously variable transmission to deliver improved fuel mileage. On the 2008 Yukon Hybrid, the transmission combined with a special 6.0-liter V-8 engine advertised city fuel economy as high as 21 miles per gallon. Available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the GMC Yukon Hybrid still delivered impressive sport utility vehicle performance. Up to a 6,200 pounds of towing capacity was available on the Yukon Hybrid. Able to accommodate a total of eight occupants, the hybrid sport utility vehicle came standard with a navigation system working through a 6.5-inch screen that also monitored the powertrain's performance. Exterior color and minor equipment change were made to the Yukon Hybrid from 2009 to 2013. The GMC Yukon Hybrid was dropped after the 2013 model year.
