Ford Freestyle Model Years and History

Launched as a wagon-like companion to the Five Hundred sedan, the Freestyle offered a design compromise between the traditional wagon and a sport utility vehicle. Debuting for the 2005 model year, the Freestyle was capable of seating up to seven passengers. One design trait of the Ford Freestyle was the slightly tall roof height. As will as aiding entry and exit, the configuration allowed for more upright seating. For the driver, so-called command seating provided greater visibility. A 3.0-liter Duratec V-6 engine that generated 203 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, powered the Freestyle. Along with the Ford Five Hundred, the Freestyle was one of first Ford vehicles sold in the United States to use a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

 

The 2005 Ford Freestyles engine power was fed either into the front wheels or through an all-wheel drive system. Fuel economy for the front-wheel drive version of the Freestyle was rated at 20 miles per gallon city and 27 miles per gallon highway. All-wheel drive Ford Freestyles consumed slightly more fuel recording efficiency of 19 miles per gallon city and 24 miles per gallon highway. Available in SE, SEL and Limited trim, standard equipment on the 2005 Freestyle included four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system, air conditioning, keyless entry and power mirrors. The 2007 model year Ford Freestyle became one of the first vehicles in its segment to include front side-impact and Safety Canopy side curtain airbags as standard on all models. In 2008, the Ford Freestyle was renamed the Taurus X and received a revised powertrain and a mild cosmetic retouch.
