Even after an all-new Chevrolet Silverado has been introduced for 2007, the former Silverado continues to be sold as the Silverado Classic. This older, respected design, like the new Silverado, comes in several different combinations of cab styles, bed lengths, and V6 and V8 engines, and also comes in two specialized variants that the new Silverado doesn't yet offer--a Hybrid and a high-performance SS. Silverado Classic models differ very little from equivalent 2006 Silverado models, with the exception of a few minor feature changes, and the five-speed manual transmission is now only offered with the V6.

For 2007, the Silverado 1500 Classic served as the last year for the first-generation hybrid system on the full-sized truck. The only available body style for the Silverado 1500 Classic Hybrid was an extended cab. Classified as a parallel hybrid or micro hybrid, the powertrain included on the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic Hybrid was combined with a Vortec 5.3-liter V-8 engine. Using a 42-volt electrical system, the 2007 Silverado 1500 Classic Hybrid utilized a starter/generator motor taking the place of the usual alternator. Though the hybrid system did not provide any power to the wheels, the hybrid system allowed the truck to shut off the gasoline engine when at a stop conserving fuel. Fuel savings with the hybrid system has resulted in an improvement estimated at up to 10-percent. The 2007 Silverado 1500 Classic Hybrid was also equipped with power outlets in the rear seat as well as in the truck bed allowing electric devices such as power tools to operate. With 295 horsepower and 335 pound-foot of torque coming from the gasoline engine, the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic Hybrid could tow up to 7,700 pounds of load. The extended cab truck was offered with two-wheel and a four-wheel drivetrain choice supported by four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. With cabin room ample to seat up to six passengers, the 2007 Silverado 1500 Classic Hybrid came with standard convenience features such as power windows, multi-zone air conditioning, cruise control and keyless entry. In 2009, Chevrolet reintroduced a hybrid version of the Silverado 1500 pickup truck using a different type of gasoline/electric drive technology.
