Chevrolet Express Cargo Van Model Years and History

The Chevrolet Express carries over with minimal changes from the previous year's models for 2026.

The Chevrolet Express 2500 rolls into 2024 with a new 8-speed transmission as standard across both engines while the Express 3500 carries over with minimal changes.

For 2023, Chevrolet Express drops the diesel engine but otherwise carries over with minimal changes.

For 2021, Chevrolet Express gets a new heavy duty 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine, replacing the previous 6.0 LC8 V8 and the 6.0L L96 V8. This newly developed engine is used in Chevrolet's Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD trucks, it is capable of 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Other than the changes in powertrains, there are no other significant alterations.

For 2020, Chevrolet Express rolls into the new year with no significant updates.

For 2019, Chevrolet has updated the full-size Express passenger van with a lane-departure warning, forward collision alert and a theft deterrent system.

Chevy have given the Express Passenger van a new base engine for 2018 that promises to be more efficient as well as a little more powerful than the engine it replaces. The new engine is a 4.3L V6, which has both less displacement and two fewer cylinders than the engine it replaces. Despite the size, the new V6 actually makes a little more power than the engine it replaces. Owners who want a V8 can still get the optional 6.0L unit however. The only other major changes for this year, are the addition of a couple of safety features: a blind spot alert system and a hill start assist system.

The Chevy Express rolls into 2017 with few changes.

The Chevrolet Express Passenger van gets numerous improvements to the infotainment system in 2016. 4G LTE now comes with the OnStar system which means that the Chevrolet Express Passenger Van can be used as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing passengers to remain connected at all times. For 2016, the Express now comes equipped with six standard airbags.

For 2015, Chevrolet has discontinued the light-duty Express 1500 line, including all-wheel-drive models. Express Cargo vans no longer feature a driver's side swing-out cargo door, and two new stereos are offered.

The Chevrolet Express Passenger van gets power windows and door locks as standard for 2014 but is otherwise unchanged.

Chevrolet has added a rear vision camera, rear park assist and a navigation radio to the Chevy Express Passenger Van's options list for 2013.

The 2012 Express didn't change much from the 2011 model. Power front seats are now optional across the lineup and the engine availability has been revised.

For 2011, the versatile Express sees mostly superficial changes, though two new powerplants are available, including a 4.8-liter Vortec V8 FlexFuel unit producing 280 hp and 295 ft-lb of torque as well as a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel.

There's nothing new for the Express this year. As a carry-over from 2009, it retains its class-exclusive all-wheel-drive option.

For 2008, GM introduces the GEN-IV Vortec engines for the Chevy Express passenger vans. A new 3/4-ton model now comes with a 6.0L V8 gasoline engine as standard. Also, standard on all of the Express passenger vans are head curtain side air bags, an expanded driver information center, and StabiliTrak.

For 2007, the formerly optional 295-horsepower Vortec 5300 V8 is now included on standard-duty Chevy Express 1500 passenger van models. The 5300 engine may now also be ordered with E85 flex-fuel capability.
