The Passport was Honda’s very first SUV, making its way into the lineup in 1993 when the vehicles first started gaining a lot of traction. Its popularity soon fizzled, though, and Honda took a long break with its production beginning in 2002. However, it’s back for 2019 for its third generation and, not surprisingly, doesn’t look or feel an ounce like its predecessor. The Passport is no longer just for the road; it’s also geared toward off-roading with its rugged looks, available torque-vectoring system, and a 280-horsepower V6 engine. The Passport isn’t Honda’s only SUV to get attention this year. The Pilot, a midsize SUV with a spacious interior, gets standard Honda Sensing, plus reconfigured trim levels with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert available on lower trims. The compact HR-V receives some styling tweaks and standard Honda Sensing, but drops the optional manual transmission. Following a recent redesign, the CR-V enters the year unchanged.
