Mercedes-Benz proceeds deeper into redefining their premium sport utility vehicle lineup for 2017. Converting to a new model naming structure resembling the Mercedes-Benz's car classification, the German luxury automaker incorporates several upgrades to their sport utility and crossover vehicles. The seven-passenger GL is the latest and final Mercedes-Benz premium crossover to adopt the new branding with a major refresh. Now known as the GLS, the large crossover receives an updated exterior appearance and a nine-speed automatic transmission. For 2017, the GLC-Class is now available with a sleeker coupe body style. Accompanying the new GLC-Class Coupe, an all-new 362-horsepower AMG GLC43 is available with the conventional and coupe variant. Another addition to the high-powered Mercedes-Benz crossover lineup for 2017 is the GLE43 AMG powered by a 3.0-liter biturbo V-6. Scheduled to receive a restyling for the 2018 model year, the Mercedes-Benz GLA's 2017 model year upgrades are more modest consisting of an upgraded 8-inch slim-line display as well as standard Keyless-Start and power liftgate. Existing above the other Mercedes-Benz premium utilities, the G-Class gains a unique reputation. For 2017, a G550 4X 42 achieves outrageous off-road performance thanks to a 18-inch ground clearance achieved through portal axles.
