2017 Kia Niro Review

Get the best of both worlds—and save the one you’re on at the same time—with a Kia Niro. It’s a crossover with all the convenience and versatility you expect. And it’s a hybrid with futuristic technology and almost unreal gas mileage. It’s a high-style high-MPG adventure vehicle made especially for you. Choose from five Niro models starting with the FX and ending with the top-of-the-line Touring. The Niro was designed to be everything the typical hybrid isn’t. Its full-parallel hybrid powertrain works seamlessly changing from gas to electric power to maximize efficiency—or using both if that’s what you need. Outside its slippery shape reduces drag at freeway speeds—while looking decidedly un-hybrid-like. Inside smart technology like the available voice-command navigation and Harmon Kardon premium audio make you feel like you’re in anything but a hybrid. And with Kia’s industry-leading warranty program you’ll enjoy driving your un-hybrid hybrid for a long long time. A variety of colors trims and options means you can build a Niro that’s all yours. The Kia Niro. A smart new approach to crossover capability.
Getting 52 miles per gallon in the city is just about the only way you’ll know your Kia Niro is a hybrid. You won’t be able to tell when you’re packing its fifty-plus-cubic-foot cargo space. Need to carry passengers and cargo? Just fold down either side of the 60/40-split rear seat. And you sure won’t know your Niro is a hybrid when you’re sitting on its available heated ventilated power-adjustable leather seats. Want even more comfort? Turn on the available heated steering wheel. Your Kia Niro. It’s the un-hybrid.
No matter which Kia Niro model you choose you’ll experience the confidence of advanced driver assist technology. Standard active features include electronic stability control traction control and electronic brake-force distribution. Forward collision warning smart blind-spot detection rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning are just a few of the available active technologies. Passive features found on all Niros include side-impact door beams front and rear crumple zones and a complete set of safety restraint systems. With a Kia Niro you have the advantage.
The Kia Niro’s 1.6-liter gas engine was designed specifically for hybrids. It works with an electric motor that’s mounted between the gas engine and Kia’s hybrid-specific six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Add smart technology like the available Eco Driving Assistance System and grille shutters that close at highway speeds for better aerodynamics and the result is an outstanding 52 miles per gallon—in the city! But don’t think you won’t have fun in your Niro. Its hybrid powertrain develops a whopping 195 pound-feet of torque for instantaneous get-up-and-go. The Kia Niro. It’s the un-hybrid.
