The Subaru Crosstrek returns for 2019 after a full redesign last year. For 2019, the Crosstrek gets a new 6.5-inch multimedia system for the Premium trim as well as increased functionality for Subaru's EyeSight suite of safety systems; meaning that EyeSight now comes with automatic high beam assist and reverse automatic braking on Limited trimmed Crosstreks. In addition, EyeSight is now available on base trimmed Crosstreks with the CVT.

The 2018 Crosstrek brings a full redesign and the second generation of the compact crossover to the market, with many improvements throughout the vehicle. The Crosstrek receives a new platform and new suspension design, providing a more stable ride while also making a smoother more comfortable ride. All-wheel drive is now standard on all Crosstreks and features Torque Vectoring, which provides improved handling on and off road. For 2018 the Crosstrek now has a 6-speed manual transmission designed for more acceleration and better highway efficiency. The engine in the 2018 gets a bump in power at 152 horsepower and a new 7-speed CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is offered. A newly designed rear hatch provides for more cargo space and a wider hatch opening. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now come standard in every Crosstrek.

A new special edition of the Subaru Crosstrek is available for 2017, the Premium Special Edition comes exclusively in either Pure Red or Crystal Black Silica and gets exterior styling enhancements, additional interior amenities and contrasting stitching on the interior. A blind-spot detection system, a rear cross-traffic alert system and a lane change assist system are all newly available for 2017, while the hybrid model has been discontinued.

A 2.0-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine could be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission with manual shift mode. Added sound reduction engineering was built into the 2014 model year XV Crosstrek followed by more improvements for 2015. Along with a standard rear view camera, Subaru's Eyesight driver assist and Starlink multimedia system were made available on the crossover. Starting in 2016, the ‘XV' lettering has been erased from the crossover vehicle leaving it to be called the Subaru Crosstrek.
