The Land Rover Freelander was introduced to the American market in 2002, offered as a compact SUV with an entry-level price tag, boosting a 2.5-liter V6 engine that made 174 horsepower, adorned with the luxurious creature comforts Land Rover was famous for. In 2003, Land Rover added a larger fuel tank and offered a newer, quieter climate control system. New side moldings were introduced and a three-door SE3 edition was unveiled that featured removable top panels. The
2004 Freelander offered a new front bumper and grille, boasted clear lenses on the head lights and tail lamps, and flaunted a newly designed dash and gauge cluster, as well as new interior trim features overall. In 2005, the HSE trim was discontinued and powered sunroof, fog lights and a spare tire were offered as a standard feature across all Freelander trims.
