For 2021, the Jeep Grand Cherokee receives several changes and updates, including package updates, color options, available technology, and wheel options. Jeep has also added two new package additions, the 80 Edition model, and the Laredo X trim. The Laredo X has joined the lineup which includes an 8.4-inch infotainment screen with navigation, remote start, power liftgate, heated steering wheel, and heated seats. The 80th Anniversary Edition model includes the driver-assistance features and leather upholstery with light tungsten interior accents, special 18-inch wheels and badging,

The Jeep Grand Cherokee carries over into the 2020 model year with minimal changes. It continues to be one of the most versatile and easy to live with mid-sized SUV's on the market.

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has added a number of meaningful updates to its flagship Grand Cherokee lineup. All models now include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert for starters. The optional 8.4-inch infotainment system now comes with navigation and features further improvements upon its touchscreen software with better responsiveness and resolution. The new Limited X model comes equipped with unique front and rear bumpers, a SRT inspired hood, and sporty 20-inch wheels. Summit and Overland models are available with new wheel options and three new colors: Slate Blue, Green Metallic and Sting Gray.

For 2018, Jeep has added a Trackhawk trim to the Grand Cherokee. The performance-oriented model carries the Dodge Hellcat's supercharged 6.2L V8, which makes 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. A Sterling Edition celebrates the Grand Cherokee's 25-year anniversary, with special badging, extra chrome trim, and 20-inch wheels. A high-definition 7-inch touchscreen replaces the old 5-inch screen on the Uconnect infotainment system.

The biggest news for 2017 is the addition of the Trailhawk trim. Focused on true off-road performance, Trailhawk-trimmed Grand Cherokees include special differentials, additional ground clearance and unique interior and exterior styling cues. Other refinements for 2017 include a new appearance package for summit models, new leather interior packages, a new front fascia for SRT models and a rearview camera that now comes standard across the entire range.

For 2016, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a revised, more conventional shifter though it remains in a fixed position no matter the gear. To improve fuel efficiency, the 3.6L V6 now has variable valve timing and lift, along with automatic stop-start. Output is also improved, now up to 295 horsepower. Weight is reduced thanks to the use of aluminum suspension components, and electrically assisted power steering debuts on all but SRT Jeeps. A 75th Anniversary Edition is available on Laredo and Limited models, while a High Altitude Limited Edition also debuts.

The Grand Cherokee is mostly unaltered for 2015, though Summit models have improved interior noise levels and interior lighting. Changes include acoustic glass in the windshield and side windows along with illuminated door sills and noise-cancelling technology in the speakers.

Jeep has initiated several key changes to the ever-popular Grand Cherokee for 2014. Outside, the SUV has updated styling, particularly up front, with revised headlights, grilles, fog lamps and lower fascias. New LED taillights make their way onto the Jeep as well. Inside, the Grand Cherokee includes a new steering wheel with paddle shifters and a new electronic gear shift selector. A new 8.4-inch UConnect infotainment system anchors the revised center stack, and a new 7-inch configurable screen sits front and center in the gauge cluster. New safety features make their way into the 2014 Grand Cherokee as well, including front park assist, front collision alert, and adaptive cruise control. Several trim and accessory changes also dot the landscape of the Grand Cherokee, allowing for increased choices when ordering. The biggest news for the Grand Cherokee is under-hood, however, with several powertrain updates. Chief among them is the addition of a new 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. The engine produces 240 hp and a substantial 420 ft-lb of torque, with an EPA estimated 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway in 4x2 models. It allows for a 7,400-lb tow rating. An 8-speed automatic transmission is now standard, and Jeep says it ups fuel economy by 5%. The Trailhawk trim has been dropped.

The Grand Cherokee remains mostly unchanged for 2013. A new trim level, the Trailhawk is now available, catering to drivers who intend to take their Grand Cherokees off-road on a regular basis. Featuring trick suspension, the Trailhawk maintains the Grand Cherokee as the premiere off-road luxury SUV.

Following a full redesign in 2011, the Grand Cherokee returns, adding a new SRT8 high-performance variation that sports a 6.4L 465-horsepower V8. The standard equipment list on the base Laredo was slimmed down a bit with a corresponding reduction in base price, but a "Laredo E" group can add much of that equipment back. The 70th anniversary models have been dropped for 2012.

Completely redesigned for 2011, the Jeep Grand Cherokee boasts an all-new sculpted body with a sleek exterior, smoother lines and improved aerodynamics. The vehicle's 114.8-inch wheelbase is 5.3 inches longer than the 2010 model, and the lower front fascia is now removable. The 3.6L V6 that comes standard on every Grand Cherokee is a brand-new for 2011. Each Grand Cherokee trim is available with a choice of Quadra Trac 4-wheel drive systems. Soft-touch interior materials make the luxury more palpable, and more comfortable with more than four more inches of rear-seat, knee and leg room. Jeep's CommandView®, a new dual-pane panoramic sunroof, extends from the windshield to the rear of the vehicle and is optional.

Few features have been added to the Grand Cherokee for 2010 as a complete redesign is expected for the 2011 model year. A few features were dropped from the Grand Cherokee for 2010, such as the Overland trim level and a couple of optional engines, including the turbo diesel V6. That still leaves plenty to like, including the high-performance SRT-8 model with a 420-hp Hemi V8 under the hood.

For 2009, Jeep's Grand Cherokee SUV gets a boost in the engine output. The 5.7L Hemi is improved to deliver 357 hp and 389 ft-lb of torque. Also new is variable valve timing (VVT), which improves fuel economy, and Multi-Displacement System, which shuts down half the engine's cylinders during certain periods further improve fuel efficiency. A new Leather Appearance Group is standard on Limited and Overland models and includes leather trim on the doors, armrests, center console, shift knob and instrument binnacle. The Laredo model now includes a soft-touch center armrest cover, leather-wrapped parking brake, and chromed interior door handles and audio control buttons. The high-performance Cherokee SRT8 receives upgraded leather and a bigger DVD screen.

Jeep's Grand Cherokee gets a number of small changes for 2008 that serve to bring the model more upmarket. The Grand Cherokee's available 4.7L V8 has been reengineered for 30 percent more power and ten percent more torque. High-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps are newly available on some models, and headlamps across the model range have a new integrated design with park/turn lens. The front fascia and grille have also been redesigned, and the lineup of wheel designs has been revamped. Inside, the center console, cup holders, and armrests have been reconfigured, the instrument panel gets a new soft-touch material, and the instrument panel now has LED illumination and black gauges with white pointers. Numerous changes have also been made to standard equipment. Heated first- and second-row seats are now standard on the Limited and Overland, and the availability of the MyGig system and rear DVD entertainment system has been expanded. Sirius Backseat TV is now optional on Limited and Overland models.

For 2007, the Jeep Grand Cherokee gets a number of equipment changes, and becomes the first full-size SUV in recent history to offer a diesel engine option. There's also a new FlexFuel-compatible version of the 4.7L V8 in the lineup this year. Side-curtain air bags with a rollover detection system are now standard on the Grand Cherokee. Remote start is standard on Limited and Overland models. On the Laredo there are also two new option groups: Popular Equipment, and Sun and Sound. Additionally, the taillight design has been revised, interior trims and finishes have been upgraded, and five new colors are offered for 2007.
