New for the 2008 Audi A8 and A8 L are bigger tires, a revised wheel design, standard Sirius satellite radio, and standard heated front and rear seats. The Exclusive Package now has a new color scheme, the S8 can order door close assist and a heated steering wheel. A new Driver Assistance Package is available on the A8, A8 L, and S8 models. It monitors the areas on both sides of the vehicle as well as behind the car in order to alert the driver when traffic is present in the car's blind spots. This feature also vibrates the steering wheel to warn the driver when the car drifts outside of traffic lanes.

The V8-powered A8 and A8 L get a more powerful and more economical direct-injection engine for 2007. Also, a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and adaptive air suspension are now standard. A 20-inch wheel upgrade is also new for 2007. The 20-inch alloys, which follow the same seven-spoke design as those used in the RS4, are optional with the Sport package. Another new option is the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, a 1000-watt, 14-speaker, fully digital system. Of particular interest is the launch of Audi's S8, which uses a slightly less powerful version of the same 5.2L V10 engine found in the Lamborghini Gallardo.

About A8 L

Introduced during the 2004 model year on a completely refreshed vehicle platform, the Audi A8 L was an extended wheelbase version of the A8 sedan. Compared to the 2005 model year standard wheelbase A8, the 2005 Audi A8 L was 5.1 inches longer in overall length that is biased towards rear seat room. Entering the market powered by a 4.2-liter V-8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive in 2004, the 2005 model of the Audi A8 L additionally offered a 450-horsepower W-12 engine.

 

The leather-upholstered interior of the 2005 Audi A8 L featured an array of 10 airbags. The exterior design of the 2011 Audi A8 L received a revision featuring redesigned headlight housings and is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 372-horsepower version of the 4.2-liter V-8 engine remained part of the 2011 Audi A8 while an upgraded W-12 powerplant generating 500 horsepower was added for 2012. For specialized exclusive car activity, the 2011 model year also provided a factory available A8 L Security model fitted with armor-grade construction, two-way communication system and a fire extinguishing system.

 

In 2013, the 4.2-liter V-8 was replaced by a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine. A fourth engine was made available on the 2014 model year Audi A8 L with the addition of a 3.0-liter TDI powerplant.
