About A8

The flagship sedan within the Audi line-up, the A8 assumed the spot that belonged to the Audi V8 in 1994. The Audi A8 was introduced to the United States in 1997 as a front-wheel drive propelled by a 3.7-liter V-8 and a 4.2-liter V-8 with quattro all-wheel drive. The leather-upholstered interior of the 1997 Audi A8 included standard dual-zone climate control and a power sunroof. The smaller displacement V-8 engine was excluded from the Audi A8 in 2000 leaving only the 310-horsepower 4.2-liter powerplant.

The 2000 model year also saw the debut of an extended wheelbase version of the Audi A8 to North America. Side-curtain airbags provided an extra layer of available safety on the 2000 Audi A8. A redesigned Audi A8 built on a new-generation platform was introduced for 2004 as a long-wheelbase L model. The shorter wheelbase model of the new Audi A8 would arrive the following year. For 2005, the Audi A8 offered a 330-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 engine connected to a six-speed automatic gearbox. 2005 also saw the debut of Audis MMI system inside the A8 sedan.

Featuring a refreshed grille design, the 2008 Audi A8 also presented electronic safety monitors Audi Side Assist and Audi Lane Assist. A new Audi A8 in 2011 reshaped the exterior aesthetics of the full-sized sedan. Engine power for the 2011 Audi A8 was enhanced to 372 horsepower applied through a standard quattro all-wheel drive system. LED headlights became an option on the 2011 Audi A8 sedan. In 2013, a pair of force induction powerplants replaced the 4.2-liter engine. A 333-horsepower, supercharged TFSI 3.0-liter V-6 as well as a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine generating 420 horsepower was added with the 2013 Audi A8.
