Audi A7 Model Years and History

For 2025, the Audi A7 lineup maintains its core offerings with refinements to standard features. The S7 receives updated performance calibration for improved responsiveness, while the RS 7 performance model enhances its capabilities.

For 2024, the Audi A7 carries over with minimal changes, the RS 7 gets more powerful engine and S7 gets a refreshed exterior.

For 2023, the Audi A7 and S7 both carry over with minimal changes.

For 2022, the Audi A7 adds rear side impact airbags, the RS 7 adds a new RS Design Package and the S7 carries over with minimal changes.

For 2021, the Audi A7 adds the anticipated plug-in hybrid model to the lineup while the rest of the lineup receives minor changes to packages and standard equipment.

The biggest news for 2020 is the addition of the new Audi S7. Using the same body as the A7, the S7 focuses on the car's sporty character. With over 100 more horsepower over the A7, the S7 makes a rival to the higher performance sports sedans from BMW, Lexus and Mercedes.

The Audi A7 gets a full redesign for the 2019 model year. The exterior design keeps to the original A7 foundation but adds sharper lines and a more defined look. A long hood and tapering rear roofline give the A7 a sporty look. Inside, technology takes front seat, with multiple color displays, reduced number of knobs and interactive functionality. A new powertrain consisting of a 3.0L turbocharged V6 and a 7-speed transmission is also introduced for 2019.

The Audi A7 gets several additions for 2018 including a more power 3.0L supercharged V6 for all models replacing its diesel predecessor and a corner-view camera for Prestige trim level vehicles. A new competition package is offered adding S-line exterior styling design, a unique Quattro sport differential, 20-inch Audi Sport Titanium-matte finish wheels, red brake calipers, sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel and S-line badging.

The Audi A7 gets several updates for 2017. The Audi A7 now includes 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity via Audi Connect, meaning that the car can connect various mobile devices to the internet. Premium plus models now get a BOSE surround sound system along with a new 19" wheel design. The biggest changes of 2017 are reserved for the hyper-fast RS7 model however. While few people who experienced last year's 560 hp RS7 could reasonably say that the car was underpowered, Audi have gone ahead and given buyers a high performance version with more power than ever before.

For 2016, Audi has introduced several changes to the A7 lineup. For starters, the front and rear ends have been slightly restyled, with a new front fascia including LED headlights and a wider grille. LED taillights and trapezoidal tailpipes in the lower rear bumper complete the look. Under the hood, the 3.0L V6 found in 3.0T models now boasts 333 horsepower, up from the previous 310. Combined fuel economy gets a boost, too, up from 21 mpg to 24 mpg. Audi has also given the A7 an all-new iteration of its MMI infotainment system, which now includes LTE connectivity and an optional Bang & Olufsen audio system. Finally, the S7 also gets a power boost, with horsepower jumping from 420 to 450.

The Audi A7 is mechanically unchanged in 2015, however there are several new features and amenities available across various trims this year. Four-zone climate control is now standard on Premium Plus models, while Prestige trimmed A7s now come with the S line exterior package included. The RS7 meanwhile, is available with a new Carbon package that includes new suspension and steering settings as well as a new diffusor and a sport exhaust system.

Audi has introduced some significant changes to its A7 5-door. A new 3.0L clean-diesel TDI joins the 3.0T in the lineup, powered by a direct-injected turbocharged V6 producing 240 hp and 428 ft-lb of torque. The car promises an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city and 38 mpg on the highway. Both A7 models are now 5-seaters, and each starts at the Premium Plus equipment level. The powerful S7 remains a 4-seater. Joining the lineup above the S7 is the all-new RS7. Its 560-hp 4.0L V8 makes it the most powerful RS model to date, and can scoot the sleet 5-door to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Finally, an available Black Optic and bicolor package for the A7 and S7 features a black optic grille with high-gloss surround and gloss-black window surround.

After its introduction last year, the Audi A7 picks up a few helpful features for 2013. Start-stop technology has been introduced to help fuel economy and a rear bench seat is available, allowing rear seat occupants to sit three abreast. Active Lane Assist and Corner View are now available as part of the Innovation Package.

The A7 is an entirely new model in Audi's lineup, with a coupe-like roofline and an unusual 4-door fastback body style that marries some of the traits of a crossover with those of a station wagon--providing a more distinctive alternative to mid-size luxury sport sedans.
