Since inception, luxury brand Cadillac has garnered a storied reputation as a utility vehicle provider (most notably from the 1950s to the 1980s where Cadillacs routinely functioned as ambulances and hearses). Starting in 1999, Cadillac badging has been attached to sport utility vehicles. The initial production models of the Cadillac Escalade were thinly-veiled GMC Yukon Denali with a few added features. Since 2002, the Escalade has been differentiated with more Cadillac-driven styling as well as different engines. The Cadillac luxury utility line-up has also featured a crossover vehicle. Called the Cadillac SRX, the crossover utility underwent a massive downsizing following a second generation redesign. In 2017, Cadillac's all-new crossover will be called the XT5.
