THE TIMING CHAIN HAS BEEN REPLACEDIf you know these cars, you already know why that sentence matters. The 2.0T EA888 engine in this generation of Audi has one famous weakness: the original timing chain tensioner design. It allows the chain to go slack on cold starts. Left alone long enough, the chain skips teeth, the valves meet the pistons, and the engine is finished. It is the single most reported problem on this platform, it was the subject of a settled class action covering these model years, and the repair runs $1,500 to $3,500 when a shop does it properly. In May 2026, our own shop replaced the timing chain, the tensioner, and the guides on this vehicle. Not a band-aid, not a sensor the complete job, with the updated parts. That is the difference between buying a 106,000-mile 2.0T Audi and gambling on one. Ask any other dealer selling one of these when the chain was last touched. Most of them won't be able to tell you. WHAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY GETTING Road tested before it was inspected not after. Every vehicle we list is driven at least five miles before the inspection begins, so our technician knows how it actually drives going in. Then our 90-point inspection. Any service performed. Then driven again up to a few hundred miles depending on the work to confirm the repairs held. Most dealers inspect a car on a lift. We drive it first, so the inspection has something to look for. OBDII scan performed: all drive monitors completed, zero stored or pending trouble codes. On an engine with this reputation, that scan is worth reading twice. Passed Georgia emissions inspection 04/30/2026. Ready to register. Clean title, guaranteed by CARFAX no salvage, junk, rebuilt, fire, flood, hail, or lemon brand, across every owner in its history. No total loss. No structural damage and no airbag deployment reported to CARFAX. No odometer rollback. CARFAX reports what was performed but never what it cost, so this is our estimate at standard retail rates. Independent sources put a complete timing chain service on this engine at $1,500 to $3,500 alone; RepairPal's tensioner-only estimate for an A5 quattro runs $1,349 to $1,739. All of this work was performed within the last twelve months, and all of it by our own shop. REAL VALUEWe cross-check every vehicle against multiple independent sources rather than quoting whichever number flatters us most: Kelley Blue Book Typical Listing Price: $9,310 CARFAX History-Based Value: $10,260 Manheim Adjusted Retail Average: $10,650 Current Market Average: $11,171 J.D. Power Retail Book: $12,613Those five average about $10,800. We're anchoring below that at roughly $10,000 under CARFAX, under Manheim, under market average, and well under J.D. Power. Worth knowing: none of those figures know that the timing chain was just replaced. They price a 2013 A5 with 106,000 miles and the open question every buyer of these cars asks. This one has the answer. Now add it up: Conservative market value: $10,000 Documented reconditioning, last 12 months (low estimate): $2,400 5-Year Maintenance Plan: $2,500 Quality Plus Auto Protection Plan coverage: $1,500That is more than $16,400 in total value in this vehicle built on a conservative market figure and the low end of our service estimate.Market pricing moves, and these figures can change. We are always happy to pull a current market pricing report for you on request our goal is that you never overpay and that you walk away with as much value as possible. Price is only what you pay, but value is what you get.
