The Mariner was introduced in 2005 as an entry-level, midsized SUV. For 2006, the only changes made were to optional packages. In 2007, Mercury upped the powertrain warranty coverage to five-years/60,000 miles. A slight makeover refreshed the interior and exterior for 2008, with higher quality materials and a more modernized look. A six-speed automatic transmission was added in 2009, with a 40 hp increase for V6 models, updated suspension, and steering wheel mounted audio controls marking the major changes for that year. Model years 2010-2011 only saw changes to packages and upper trim levels.
