The only other change is a new Signature Trim option package which bundles together several standalone options at a discount and includes niceties like a panoramic roof, heated front seats, automatic climate control and leatherette upholstery.

The base price has been given a modest bump with models costing about $200 dollars more than last year and Bluetooth connectivity is now standard across all model ranges. The high performance John Cooper Works version also receives a few changes to its engine, providing a slight bump in power.

2012 sees only minor updates to the MINI Cooper, most of which are related to customization options. Debuting this year is the "MINI Yours" feature, which includes an array of additional interior and exterior color and upholstery options. Other MINI Yours features include a leather instrument panel cover, 2-tone steering wheel and 17-inch wheels for the Cooper and Cooper S. All Coopers have been given an optional new interior mirror with compass, and hardtop Coopers get new 15-inch wheels.

MINI has upped power output from its pair of engines. The Cooper's 1.6L 4-cylinder now produces 121 hp, while the turbocharged Cooper S ups its power to 181 hp. The S now includes an overboost function, which increases torque momentarily from 177 lb-feet to 192 lb-feet. All MINI models receive updated styling to the front and rear, with new bumpers, fog lights, and taillights. Xenon headlights are now optional. Inside, previously silver trim pieces are now matte black and HD radio and a one-year subscription to satellite radio are now standard.

Two new packages are available for 2010. Intended to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MINI name, the Mayfair and Camden packages feature unique alloy wheels, special paint and popular options. They are both available on both the Cooper and Cooper S models.

For 2009, MINI returns its popular Cooper in all its forms--2-door hardtop, convertible, and Clubman wagon. While the hardtop received a redesign in 2007 and the Clubman adopted that car's second-generation styling on its 2008 introduction, the convertible gets its facelift for 2009. Styling is in keeping with the rest of the MINI lineup. The most exciting new addition for 2009 is the John Cooper Works package, currently available on the hardtop and Clubman, with convertible availability likely coming later in the year. The John Cooper Works ups the performance capability of the MINI with a 207-hp version of the MINI's 1.6L 4-cylinder engine, bigger disc brakes, a stiffer sport suspension and 17-inch alloys. The JCW hardtop starts at $28,550, while the JCW Clubman is priced at $30,800.

Most notably, the car's inline-four engine was reengineered and fitted with fully variable valve lift and timing, which cleverly gives the car enhanced power, torque and fuel economy. The car was stretched by almost two inches as well, and steering became more responsive, improving an already stellar drive. The standard transmission gains an extra gear, as it is now a six-speed, and automatic stability control comes standard. A "Sport Button" has been added to both the base and S Coopers, and it increases accelerator and steering response. An on-board computer, which was a $200 option in 2006 is now standard as well. CVT was dropped from the coupes for 2007. Two new optional packages debut on both the base coupe and the Cooper S in 2007: the Hyper Sport Package (sport suspension plus, and an aerodynamic kit) and the Audio Package (hi-fi HD sound system with Sirius satellite radio). Harman/kardon sound systems are no longer optional on 2007 MINIs, as are the Checkmate and JCW Packages. Keyless Go comfort access is optional for the first time on 2007 MINIs as is an arsenal of interior color combinations that would make Picasso's head spin.
