2017 MX-5 Miata RF

The Mazda MX-5 received a ground-up redesign last year. For 2017, a new model the Miata RF, or Retractable Fastback, joins the fold. The RF features rear buttresses connected by a black spoiler, and the whole system lifts at the push of a button to allow the central hard top to retract down into a storage compartment. The buttresses then return to their previous position. The RF is otherwise mechanically identical to the Miata rag top, which is largely unchanged for 2017.

About MX-5 Miata RF

A year after a fourth generation redesign of the MX-5 Miata roadster that won significant acclaim, Mazda presented something profoundly different in 2017 with a new variant of the popular small sports car. An augmenting of the brand's already-lauded KODO styling into a different sporty shape, the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF (Retractable Fastback) delivers an open-top driving experience. Making the 2017 MX-5 Miata RF unique is the power-actuated hardtop roof section that can be deployed or retracted in 13 seconds. For open-air motoring, the roof panel folds under a fastback section. Weighing slightly more than the convertible model, the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF maintains similar performance characteristics to the soft-top roof version. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv generating 195 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, the retractable fastback sports car can operate with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Club and luxury-appointed Grand Touring trim levels are attached to the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF. The debut of the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF in the United States is specifically being marked by the 1,000-unit Launch Edition. 2017 MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition models will wear a Machine Gray Metallic exterior color scheme, Auburn Nappa Leather interior and a hand-painted black top.
